Thread bans are idiotic, anyway. When you're thread banned you can't access it anymore, (can't post anymore in the thread for x amount of time would be much more beneficial) and so you can't even see why you were thread banned. You get no other notification. So people who do get banned from a thread going to the next thread with no knowledge of what they did, and possibly continue the cycle. Thread bans are thrown out way too frequently as well, it's horrible and lazy moderation and should be abolished in all but extreme cases immediately.

Permanent thread bans make no sense and stifle communication and learning.

I'd have to disagree. I'd rather have the offending member(s) thread banned, than have the entire thread locked. The latter seems to happen more than it should IMO.

Not always, there was one thread I was banned from and I was wondering what I had said, I believe I had only posted once so it must have been that, but by that time we were on Page 7 and if it was that post it was no 2.

I could have posted more than once, with a thread that long I do not remember.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

There are options to send messages/emails for warnings, suspensions and undoubtedly perma-bans. So why not for thread bans? Software limitation? Or is there an option in the ACP which allows it?

Ok, did not know you could not access anyone in administration while suspended. Email notices used to be sent our prior to the adoption of the warning center and I know I got feedback through those emails. Not sure how to resolve this but we will certainly discuss it. At the very least you should have access to the site administrator without having to acknowledge receipt of the warning/suspension.

That's what I've never understood.

It tells you to contact someone if you have an issue with your suspension, but you cannot even navigate the site OR get into your private messages when you're suspended. You get the suspension notice at every turn.

I haven't been suspended recently, but in the past when you tried to access VJ you got the message that your account was suspended, but there was a link to contact administration and I know many many people who used this link and never received a reply, myself included on multiple occasions. There was no way to contact moderation directly, just Site Administration which I was told long ago was Captain Ewok. I never heard of a single member who got a reply via this method.

Ya, change this also, @#$@ and please !

Why? That's a fella that never answers emails.

I thought his people were supposed to handle that?

Thread bans are better than the alternative... locking the whole thread because two or more people can't stop arguing. I do agree that it's often a lazy moderation solution and that people should be allowed to see threads that they have been banned from so they can learn though.

As a compromise, this would be a good move.

If only the thread-banned individuals would actually learn from just looking at a thread without being able to interject their opinions. ;)

I don't think I've had a thread ban but wouldn't the best solution be to have full read only access to the thread but have posting privileges stopped on it.
