I became a citizen today! A small ceremony, only 15 new citizens in the foyer/ waiting room of the Fort Smith USCIS office. For me, the most moving part was the video of "Proud to be an American" by Lee Greenwood they played at the end. My naturalisation cert remains unsigned as we don't seem to have a black pen at home! Must buy one tomorrow so I can sign it and send off for my passport next week.

Hi everyone! I had my interview last October 31 in Kansas City, MO. My appointment was at 9:00 am and was called in at 9:10. The IO asked for my greencard and driver's license. I gave him my GC and passport and explained that I have yet to apply for a driver's license. I was swore in and then the IO started with the civics test. The questions were:

1. What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

2. What is one promise you make when you become a United States citizen?

3. Who is the governor of your state now?

4. Who was the first President?

5. Name two national holidays?

6. Where is the Statue of Liberty?

The IO asked me to read: "Where does the President live?" and write: "The President lives in the White House".

After that, he scanned through my N400 application and verified if all the information are still true or correct like our current address & place of work. He also went through all the questions and made me sign my 2 pictures. Then he told me that I passed the test and will recommend for the approval of my application. He said that my oath taking ceremony will more likely be in January, 2012 since the December schedule is already full. He didn't asked for any evidences or proof that I brought with me. The interview lasted for about 15 minutes. I'm relieved that this part of the N-400 process is over. Good luck to the rest of August filers.

He said that my oath taking ceremony will more likely be in January, 2012 since the December schedule is already full. He didn't asked for any evidences or proof that I brought with me. The interview lasted for about 15 minutes. I'm relieved that this part of the N-400 process is over. Good luck to the rest of August filers.

Wow! I just learned something incredible about this interview!!! Your questions, KC*MP, are exactly the same I was asked, even in the same order! Even more so, the reading and writing sentences were identical. My officer was not using a computer but reading the questions from a sheet of paper and so I am now thinking that USCIS is centrally providing the questions (hopefully, of the month) instead of using a software that randomly picks them. What a joke!

That's interesting to know that we had exactly the same test for the same interview date. I noticed that my IO has a ready print out of the civics questions and he was writing the answers as I gave them. He didn't use his computer the entire time of my civics test or my interview. So you might be right that they are provided with sets of questions for a certain period, at least for some USCIS offices.

Guess what guys!! I've been looking around posts from new yorkers from april and may. Most interviews scheduled for next month are for those who applied in april and may. Meaning that new york field office is taking 6 to 7 months on average to adjudicate citizenship cases. That's great news for us augudt filers!!!. I predict that the luckiest one of us will get his interview done by last week of january with most of us having it on february and oath ceremonies in march. Unbelievable, we're behind all other field offices although we have 3 facilities!!!

Nice calculation there. I'm too lazy to do it myself, so it's good that you did :)) Anyway, end of January ain't too horrible.. Though, I was hoping for my wife to have her passport by the end of this December, this obviously isn't happening. Maybe all of us New Yorkers should write a class action complaint about how long it takes and send it off to USCIS and/or our congresspeople. They do start moving quicker when people complain :)
