Probably a stupid question, but I just wanted to make sure. I just got copies from my bank of past statements showing I was in Brazil within the last 2 years. Are copies ok or are they supposed to be original bank statements???

Thanks,

Matt

Not stupid. When it comes to this process, not asking questions is stupid.

Depends on what stage of process you are in. Are you sending this as part of your I-129F evidence, or is your case at the consulate?

If you are filing your I-129F petition, copies are just fine. If you are supplying evidence to the consulate or taking evidence to the consular interview, the original is better.

I agree this is not a stupid question... everybody wants to make sure that they get the process and documentation correct, otherwise it just delays the process and I sure nobody wants that !!!

If they are copies from your bank and not photocopies, then they are certified copies anyway which is usually acceptable.. Is this for an interview or just information that you need to send off ?..

It should say what is required in the instructions..

They're for my I-129F (proof I was in Brazil within the last 2 years). They were sent by the bank, but to me they look the same as the copies I could have downloaded from the internet.

Thanks for the quick responses,

Copies will be fine. If they look the same as the ones that you can get from the internet, just send the downloaded copies. Keep the original for your consular interview.

Make sure to send copies of any other evidence that can place you in Brazil: plane tickets, hotel/meal receipts, photos, ticket stubs from tourist attractions, etc. Keep the originals for the consular interview.
