Hello everyone!

I recently graduated from college and have been employed at my new job since June 2011 (making $35,000/year -will be bumped up to 40k Jan 1st). I recently read in another forum that in addition to a letter from my employer on official letterhead and recent pay stubs, I must include the past 2 years tax returns. Because I was in college, I only have 2010 tax return (stating a meager $4,000 income).

Although my current salary is more than sufficient, will a letter explaining that I just graduated so I don't have sufficient past tax returns suffice -or do I need to get a sponsor? My fiance and I prefer to do it ourselves w/o a sponsor.

I also read in another thread that stating ONLY salary (when more than sufficient) is totally acceptable for affidavit of support (along with pay stubs and official letter from employer. Which is true?

Do I NEED past tax returns stating large salary (which I can't do myself)? Should we have a sponsor?

Thanks guys :)

The affidavit of support isn't submitted until the interview. If you've got a few months of employment behind you the CO may not feel a need for a joint sponsor given your current income.

You may want to have one lined up just in case. That would cut down on any delay while gathering the needed paperwork if the CO requests a joint sponsor.

Past tax returns are not important. Current and continuing income is what is evaluated.

Thank you! We decided to put together 2 packets for him to take to the interview: Plan A and Plan B! Hopefully we get to go with Plan A and not involve a sponsor!

Neither of us have any children.... we are renting and I paid cash for my car years ago. I own less than $5,000 in a government student loan.
