This must be something new. We didnt have to have it when we filed last year.

I have a friend that has his interview tomorrow for his K1 in JA. He doesnt have the certif because it wasnt mentioned in the packet he said.

We will find out tomorrow if it really is needed...

The Certificate(s) of Non-Impediment to Marriage is Issued by the Registrar General’s Department on security paper. It is required to show that your fiance is not currently married or that if he/she was previously married they obtained a divorce and are therefore free to marry you.

If you the petitioner were previously married the JA Consulate requires you to show that there is no impediment for you as well.

I was previously married and so I sent my fiance a copy of my marriage certificate and the divorce decree.

CORRECTION:

This information comes directly from the Registrar General's website:

A No-Impediment Certificate commonly referred to in North America as a “single status affidavit” is an official document indicating that an individual has never been married. In Jamaica No-Impediment Certificates are issued on security paper by the Registrar General’s Department. It is the document that can be used as evidence that an individual has never entered into a union of marriage in the island of Jamaica. If a marriage is located with records of the RGD; the applicant is advised via a no-impediment letter.

So my fiancé goes to the RGD in Jamaica and they told him there is no record of him being married which Is correct since he has never been married but they don't give a certificate out for that.. Does that sound right???
