Hello,

I made this post on another forum and maybe it was the wrong one. So sorry. :(

Was wondering if anyone has any experience lately with the I-751 ?

We have sent ours in and received a notice from USCIS/Homeland Security that my hubby's alien card is extended for 1 year while we wait for processing. Oki doki, that's all good. But......after over 2 months I decided to call and got no real answers regarding this.

She only told me that processing takes a year. Maybe a little less if we're lucky.

I am under the understanding that 90 days prior to my hubby being here (a resident) he can apply for US citizenship. Do we have to wait for the I-751 to be officially approved? Of if we have not heard anything can we proceed with the citizenship application?

Does anyone have any experience with this process? Bot the I-751 and applying for citizenship?

Thanks so much!

Your husband can apply for naturalization once he has been a LPR, conditional or otherwise, for three consecutive years. You can apply for naturalization even if your I-751 is pending as long as he has completed those three years. :)

Latest news: Green card received 16 April 2007. USCIS-free until 3 January 2009! Eligible to naturalize 3 April 2010.

:D Thank you so much!

Isn't it amazing how much of our time is spent "waiting"? But I am thankful that at least now, we are waiting in the same house. :)

Thanks again!

Yes, he can apply for citizenship while waiting for the 10 year card - I think you will be sailing through now - no need for the Green card - just go directly to Citizenship. Good Luck

yeah go directly to the citizenshiop step. Good luck. Hope you get it soon:)

Just to be clear, for others.. a CR-1 still has to file the I-751 on time. But, they do not have to wait on its approval to file N-400.
