Amazing one sort of terrorist gets contextual analysis here while others are dismissed. You all should seriously analyze the platforms of all other terrorists. Why the bias?

In a way, I appreciate his efforts to assert a new standard for measuring religiosity. I say let's try it on the new announcements concerning Muslims accused of bad acts and see how they stack up against the research.

Indeed. If some want to analyze the apparent reasoning as a basis for such Christian vs Muslim strife in a causal fashion leading up to acts of terror, then they should also be open to analysis for Muslim-inspired (be it truthful, be it their interpretation, etc) acts of terror against others- particularly Israelis, Europeans, Asians, etc. Usually all I see at that point is a condemnation of Islam and of Islamists as terrorists without much pause for an analysis of causalities. This is what happens when we allow ourselves to fall prey to a selective agenda.

I think I read you write something to the tune and I think I understood your POV to some degree.

Oh, please. The problem is that only a certain kind of religious people who belong to a certain religion are associated with terrorism. The rationalization that one cannot be Christian and a terrorist, or, frankly, Jewish and a terrorist is about a lot more than semantics.

Do yourself a favor and let me deal with it my way and you can deal with it your way. It's a lot closer to home for me.

Sitting around in your underwear sporting a four-day growth of beard with a stainless steel colander on your head typing incohent messages is not helping anyone least of all Muslims.

Why can't he be a Christian?

For the same reason that Baruch Goldstein wasn't a Jew; for the same reason Osama Bin-Laden wasn't a Muslim; and for the same reason that this Norwegian fruitcake isn't a Christian. Not one of those religions sanctifies murder, not ONE. Anyone who purports to be an expert in religion would know that! Better go back to reading your Quran in its original language...French. Oh dear.

Proper analysis would be the way to move toward greater understanding on all sides. It would also be a good move to re-examine the divisive terminology surrounding the issue of terrorism.

Well, the analysis would just identify the issues. A nice goal for peace would definitely be to identify commonalities, both good and bad, to notice all sides really aren't that different from each other.

IR5 sort of said it for me.

Nothing said so far negates the claim that this terrorist is a Christian. Doing something evil hasn't stopped people who claim to be Muslims from being accepted as Muslims. Even Muslims accept that they can be Muslims, albeit ones who are ignorant of Islam. Why is there an effort to cap the idea that a terrorist can be a Christian?

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
