A fire bell in the night for Norway

Posted: July 25, 2011

by Pat Buchanan

... that massacre in Oslo, where a terrorist detonated a fertilizer bomb to decapitate the government and proceeded to a youth camp to kill 68 children of Norway's ruling elite, is a fire bell in the night for Europe. For Anders Behring Breivik is no Islamic terrorist.

He was born in Norway and chose as his targets not Muslims whose presence he detests, but the Labor Party leaders who let them into the country, and their children, the future leaders of that party.

Though Breivik is being called insane, that is the wrong word.

Breivik is evil – a cold-blooded, calculating killer – though a deluded man of some intelligence, who in his 1,500-page manifesto reveals a knowledge of the history, culture and politics of Europe.

He admits to his "atrocious" but "necessary" crimes, done, he says, to bring attention to his ideas and advance his cause: a Crusader's war between the real Europe and the "cultural Marxists" and Muslims they invited in to alter the ethnic character and swamp the culture of the Old Continent.

...

Awful as this atrocity was, native-born and homegrown terrorism is not the macro-threat to the continent.

That threat comes from a burgeoning Muslim presence in a Europe that has never known mass immigration, its failure to assimilate, its growing alienation, and its sometime sympathy for Islamic militants and terrorists.

...

As for a climactic conflict between a once-Christian West and an Islamic world that is growing in numbers and advancing inexorably into Europe for the third time in 14 centuries, on this one, Breivik may be right.

Oh dear.... Pat was obviously in suspended animation through the first half of the 20th century.

Seriously, what an idiot he is. "Breivik may be right" - that right there is exactly what's wrong with American political writing. He's tossed it out there as a device merely as a device to create controversy so he can use this terrorist attack to springboard into his predictable, hackneyed arguments about "the failure of European multiculturalism", something he doesn't elaborate on in any real level of detail.

nowhere can it be reasonably inferred in any way, shape or form that this Breivik guy is right about anything, since his name is indelibly tied to far right extremism and a heinous mass murder. That removes him and his ideas from any level of legitimate debate whatsoever.

Plus he's talking ####### - repeating that guff about the guy being released after 21 years, ignoring the fact that the Norwegian justice system does indeed have a mechanism to ensure the guy can be kept behind bars indefinitely.

Glenn Beck is still better I think.

Beck, on his radio show, declared the killings "the work of a madman" and called the suspect "as bad as Osama bin Laden." But before launching into that condemnation, he questioned what the victims were doing at a summer camp run by Norway's ruling Labour Party.

Beck said the camp "sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler Youth or whatever. Who does a camp for kids that's all about politics? Disturbing." :wow:

Anyone who thinks the European-Muslim clash is not coming holds no regard for history.

What sort of "European-Muslim clash" are you talking about? What does that even mean?

Once again AJ has taken a quote out of context and used it to insinuate something that was never actually said. Even a broken clock is right at least twice a day. The same could be said of nuts like Breivik. His method of gaining attention sucks, but it would be foolish to discount everything this guy had to say because of what he did. After all, many legitimate people hold similar views, but do not commit mass murder as a way to start a public debate.

Nowhere does Buchanan state that Breivik was right to commit mass murder and terrorism to bring his views to public forum?

Lots of us were against the Vietnam war, but we never condoned the tactics of the lunatic fringe of the Left such as the Weather Underground and their terrorism to bring it to an end.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

Buchanan isn't talking about anything that this Breivik character actually had to say, he is assuming a viewpoint for him because it's convenient to his usual diatribe about immigration in Europe...

Nothing that happened in Norway over the weekend should trigger any public debate about immigration policy. What it should do is draw attention to is the threat posed by home grown extremists.

When I read things like that - I can't help but think that the people who follow these talking heads and take them seriously are as batshit as the gunman.

You wanna know what I think?

I think you're some kind of deviated prevert. I think general Ripper found out about your prevertion, and you were organizing some kind of mutiny of preverts.
