Read the instructions carefully! All the civil documents requested with the I-130 are _copies_. If they want an original they'll ask. You'll need originals at the consular stage (ie interview or NVC)

Don't forget to have your spouse sign their G-325A. Lots-o-forms get bounced for this common error.

Any form with a signature must be the original.

Thanks for the reply Alex. I wanted to double check and make sure. This might be a dumb question but I wanted to ask if I will be mailing the documents for NVC or I will be doing walk-in interview where I can take my documents. The reason I am asking this is because if I have to mail birth certificate during NVC, I will have to order a certified copy BUT if I just walk-in I can take the original I have.

Thanks.

What process are you trying to accomplish? This forum is for AOS from K-1 or K-3 visas, and you have F-1 in your profile. Are you trying to AOS from your student visa? If so, NVC does not come into play.

I'm probably not qualified to tell on this because we'll be going to Montreal and were eligible for electronic processing at NVC, so we've got to take the original docs to the interview.

I think for non-EP you have to send originals to the NVC, they're then processed and sent along to the consulate and then you get them back at the interview. Maybe some other VJer can attest to this bit.

Oh sorry. I didn't realize that. Thanks for clarifying. I thought this forum was for AOS. Thanks once again.

No problem - there are a few types of AOS. If you are AOSing from your student visa, you won't do anything with NVC and can bring the originals to the mandatory interview. Good luck. Hopefully a mod will move this post to the one right below this one.
