Check the difference in the definition for the words "need" and "required". Actually the VJ guides suggest providing three year's tax returns, while the I-864 instructions indicate the second and third are optional. Use your own judgment. If you think two more tax returns will strengthen your case, send them.

You are required to provide information from three tax returns but only required to actually submit the most recent.

I only submitted the 2010 tax year but i am why over the proverty line, my embassy only requires the 2010, the I-864 only requires the 2010, BUT BUT IMO: if you are close to the proverty line submit last 3 yrs to help your case.......

For the last year I am 5k over, but the previous 2 before that are under because of pre tax deductions so that is why I was wondering about it.

Look at the I-864. If you haven't filed the petition yet, this comes months later.
