I dont want to be a pain asking about this thing to my fiance since he is a Native American coz i dont want us to have a misunderstanding about this matter , Since we are both new to this upcoming marriage ....i want to know who really pays for the wedding to say that my fiance is part of the Siouxe Tribe .... i heard from a friend of a friend of a friend lol what ever it is that normally in their place the womans parents pays for the wedding bills .... i dont know how tru this thing is coz in the Philippines as of what i know and tradition ally the man and his family pays for everything and stuff ... Someone could give me any idea how to start approaching to this matter since my family doesnt really come from a well off family also its not our traditional settings for this matter ...

It doesn't have anything to do with being native american. In Canada and America it is generally the brides family that pays for quite a bit of the wedding. Or the parents sit down and discuss who is paying for what part of the wedding and they make it a join thing.

The old tradition in the US is that the bride's family pays for the wedding. This is usually done when the bride is younger and it is her first marriage. Older couples, or person's that have been married before share the cost of the wedding.

In my case, we are getting married in a civil ceremony and them re-newing vows later at my church. Then we can dress up and invite people.

Yeah, American way typically is bride's family paying her off, lol. But seriously, I've seen a big shift in this tradition as many many Americans are broke, there's 50/50 split, there's cheaper weddings and there's some I've seen where the groom's family did it all. It's tradition, yes, but times are changing quick! Good luck!

In the US it's definitely the bride's family that pays for most of the wedding. Where I come from, the groom only pays for the bride's bouquet, the groomscake, the DJ and usually the rehearsal dinner, if there is one. My brother didn't have one, so my parents helped out with the reception. :)

But yeah, we're not having a big wedding because my parents just cant afford anything extravagant. Should be OK if you guys sit down and talk about it :)

I really don't know what is traditional for the Souix Nation, or the Phillipenes, however... Well... to be ask kind and fair as possible. I think that it's important to remember your goals. What is important here? The wedding or the marriage? If you or your fiance don't have the money to finance a large wedding, maybe the best option is to have a small courthouse wedding and then plan for something large later on. If both your family and his are on equal footing financially, then perhaps it is fair to come up with a 50/50 arrangement (you / your family pay for half, as does his). I don't want to tell you to do anything that would be an insult to either family, however if you're in the K1 process I think the main goal is to get here to be with the man you love. So I would talk to HIM about it. You don't have to say "hey is it traditional in your culture blah blah blah"...because when he met you, and knowing how far you have to travel etc, maybe he's been planning on paying for the wedding himself all along. In any case you can get married in the court house for $20 - $50 in most states. So maybe a good solution would be to have a small courthouse wedding now, and then when you've had the time to both work / both save you can save up for a larger wedding with your families.

Just a suggestion. Congratulations on yor engagement

Neither of our families have excess money right now.. so we're footing the bill ourselves.

Anything goes these days!

My family paid for most of the wedding.. I would say about 80%. All my husband's side paid for was the dj, photographer and rehearsal dinner. This was something that was agreed on and discussed beforehand, so it wasn't awkward at all. And we stayed with my in-laws for the first 4 months of marriage rent-free so I think they helped us out a lot, and it kinda balanced the fact that my side paid for most of the wedding. :)
