How can so many parents not see through it though? I don't think anyone actually believes that fast food is GOOD for them. How can a burger that costs under $5 (or less if you like the dollar menu) be good? Yeah, they're cheap and a lot of people are broke - but there are better options.

I don't think the parents buy into the marketing, but the kids certainly do.

It would be easier for parents to do that if it weren't for pervasive and aggressive marketing from fast food chains.

Welcome to parenting.

If parents would let their kids sit in front of the TV all day, then perhaps there wouldn't be an issue.

Of course, when I was a kid, we still had the word "NO" around. That seems to have left society nowadays when parents would rather be their child's best friend than an actual parent.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I didn't say that. All I'm saying is that I would feel better taking my daugther to McDonald's if they were to downsize the fries portion in their Happy Meals and add a few fruit slices instead. That's it. I'm a customer that would consider frequenting McD's perhaps twice as much as I do today if the meals they offered for kids would be better balanced - less fat, less starch and more fresh fruit. And I am not the only parent that feels that way.

doesn't mcdonalds already have apples as an option instead of fries?

I remember this guy I went to school with who couldn't stand pizza. When I asked him why, he told me that his mother was a single mom who worked 3 jobs to keep a roof over their heads. So most days he was fed frozen pizza because that is all the time and energy she had at the end of a very long day. For me on the other hand, I had a stay-at-home mom who never had to worry about the next paycheck, and she cooked fresh nutritious meals everyday. So things like pizza & happy meals were a treat for me growing up. I honestly think that parents would make better choices for their kids if those choices were readily available, because most parents (in their right mind) would want only the best for their kids.

I sense some sarcasm here.

I know Wendy's does. Haven't seen that at McD's but I could be wrong.

I only asked because one of my cousins had a happy meal with apples and milk today.

If we focus on educating people on making wise choices, we are sure to see a vocal crowd protesting vociferously about the taking away of liberties and all that retarded paranoia.

Indeed there are better options. Pound for pound, that same amount of burger will cost you less if made at home, with less fat, fillers, and goodness knows what else. But even with nutrition on your side, it will be questioned as invalid by the same people willing to condemn the same market forces they support in the practice of selling food in the USA.

People know that McDonalds is not good for them. Lack of education is not the problem.

Yes, they do. It isn't anything new.
