Hello VJ! I need your opinions.

I'm going over for a quick visit to the States to celebrate a birthday, and was wanting to bring some of my stuff over in suitcases. A duffel and larger rolling duffel, all they have in them are books and some stuffed animals. Do you think they'll see it in the scan and get suspicious? Should I just wait until I'm for real moving there to take that stuff over? Just wondering if anyone's tried to take over personal belongings ahead of time. I don't want them not letting me take my stuff with me. Thanks so much for reading!

It's always up to the custom officers. If it looks like you have immigrant intent or if anything looks suspicious they will turn you around. Be aware US Customs does not allowed you to start importing your belongings before you actually move to the US with your issued visa. You will then have 10 years to do so.

Right - we totally understand the want and need to feel like you're moving forward, but honestly it doesn't really gain you that much and the risk of having the border thinking something odd is happening is not worth it.

Books and stuffed animals can be packed when you leave - not like you can bring that many on the plane anyway :)

Thanks for your replies.

That's what I was worried about. Looks like they'll have to wait. ;) Thanks!

I did however have my then fiancé (now husband) take a few odd things back each time he drove up to visit. Nothing to obvious or huge. Somehow I felt liek we were making progress - still needed a big Uhaul regardless :) Lots of junk in a 2 bedroom apartment plus a teenager to move.
