My step daughter had an easy and successful interview today in Moscow. Only one question asked about her mother, and that was how she got to the US and got married. Essentially it was an automatic approval.

We petitioned for her 4 years ago when she was 19. It's been a long wait but she was able to get a tourist visa and visit us several times. It also allowed her to get some great advanced education in Russia. Next we will see what it is worth here in the US. Looks like it will be a few months before she moves.

4 years. Wow!

At least I know it'll be at least four years once my MIL decides to move here.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Obviously she didn't qualify for the fast track I-130 visa which is too bad given she was 19 years-old when you started. My stepson got in under the wire. He turns 21 soon.

Anyway, our respective step kids will be coming over about the same time.

Congrats!

We used ECE to evaluate Alla's education and it was considered equivilent to a US education in the same subjects, good enough to get her a teaching certificate in Vermont with just some minor classes needed here. That's the good news.

The bad news? Schools do not just jump all over a foreign educated, non-native speaker to teach English. Go figure. So she will complete her MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA-TESOL)this week on FRIDAY (YAY!) and then will have an "English education" on the subject

Depending what your daughter studied she may or may not have the same issues. If it was a science related subject, maybe not so much. Sergey is feeling around and the general consensus is that his degree is physics from Russia will be just as well accepted here.

Anyway, best of luck to her, ECE can do the evaluation.
