Its a good thing that you have brought this up, I signed with black ink too. I guess we need to start discouraging people from using it.

I remember we used blue ink because when we first did it in black it did not look like a original copy. Guess they should put in the forms "Sign in Blue ink only!" on the forms.. grr

Absurd, sounds like it really depends on who it is that reviews your forms. I'm definitely not going to take any chances at delays though, I'll be using blue for my future AOS, thanks for the heads up!

Hmm.. yes, I agree... shallow and pedantic...

ARGHHHH, FFS!!!

this is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure we used black ink pens. I am going to be so mad if they send it back based on that.

Pedantic is RIGHT.

Guys, if you have already submitted your DS-230 or I-864, it is alright. There is no need to panic just because one guy got an RFE - the issue could be with the quality of the pen/ ink used in that pen. We sent all out I-130s using blank ink and haven't heard of an RFE till this case.

And if you have not submitted any of those, start using Blue ink pen - ensure that these are good quality pens.

All the opinions in the world about black ink don't matter at all--all that matters is they didn't accept it, and you had to change it to blue. We used black without a single problem, but based on your case alone, it seems that everyone should use BLUE--no since taking any risks going forward.

Silly--of course--but no sense fighting it.

Absolutely!!! No sense in going crazy! Just need to fix the problem urgently. But thanks for putting this out there. It's good though to post these stupid excuses they use to put a case aside so that we who haven't gone through the process yet can use as examples.

Good Luck

Actually, when I was signing I129F and other documents my lawyer MADE me sign documents in blue ink. I do not know the reason but she said this is important. I am guessing that it is hard or impossible to distinguish black inc original signature from scanned copy. Just a guess.

I heard it on the commute coming back home from school. It was on National Public Radio (NPR). It has been discussed, it has NOT been mandated yet.

I personally use Gel Ink pens when signing documents of this nature as they are easily decipherable compared to the standard ball-point pen.

The U.S. Government is looking to change the legal color of all signed documents to blue ink as it is getting harder and harder to tell if a blank ink signature is a true ink signature or a high quality scanned signature.

I heard this on NPR a few weeks ago.

I read about this as well. If this is the case, the forms need to be updated with the color of ink that's required. Some forms state "black in only". This is ridiculous!!!

The inlstructions have not changed yet. We need to use black ink pen only to fill the forms with hand or type the form. We can use either black or blue ink pen to sign.

The problem with black ink is that the document could easily be thought to be a copy, if the black ink pen is not good one. So it is safe to use blue ink pen. But as long as one uses good black ink pen, it is fine. I even called NVC and confirmed before actually sending my I-864 with good black ink and DS-230 was signed by wife in blue ink. We had no issues. I sent mine after this thread was intially posted.
