How much longer after the i-864???

I just spoke to the NVC and they said that my next step is filing the i-864 for proof of employment. How long do you think it will be before we have our interview?

Also, I was in Mexico with my wife for months and haven't found a job here in the states after being here for a few weeks. That will probably be a problem even though I still have a decent amount of money in my savings account(15-20k). I was told that I could just send them a letter along with the 864 explaining my situation but it may be better to include a family member's income. Any thoughts?

You're at the part "What happens After You Mail the I-130 Out" Right now you are waiting for your NOA2 and then you will assemble a list of items including the I-864. As far as I know the income requirements are pretty cut and dry but you have time to figure out how you are going to get it organized. You can combine your assets and generate income to meet the guidelines or find a co-sponsor who can meet the guidelines. The instructions are here: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864instr.pdf

Since you do not have income, you should probably look into having somebody else co-sponsor your wife. As far as your savings go, they only figure 10% of what you have. Example: you have 20k, they will only figure in 2k. You need to be above 125% poverty limit.
