Hi Visa journey, my wife is currently waiting for an interview date. I used an agency to help me file the CR-1 petition process. I have notice that HCMC consulate nowadays request a 10 year residency from the petitioner and list of relatives currently residing in the US. I ask my agent about the 10 residency and list of relatives and she said that "do not provide anything unless they ask for it". I am going back to VN to go with my wife for the interview and I just want to prepare all or most of what is needed by the consulate. So is my agent right or should I prepare the 10 year residency & list of relatives and have it notarized before I go to VN and bring it to the interview??? Thanks everyone for your help, god bless.

It seems to be a request given to a lot of HCMC couples. Why not have it prepared and possibly avoid a delay and the accompanying disappointment?

My understanding is that both of you are right. There is a discussion thread in Vietnam VJ about front-loading these docs as to reduce the likelihood of getting a blue slip. But from what posters are reporting, COs won't accept it. Thus, you may have to wait until the timeline and 10 yr residency are requested by the CO.

Getting it notarized is recommended if you can't physically make it to the interview. But I don't think it is necessary since you will be physically present for the interview and can substantiate that the docs are true and accurate.

Veterans, please correct me if I'm wrong.

And good luck!

I would prepare the 10 year residency document for yourself and for your wife. I would also prepare a timeline just in case. I only had the timeline for my fiance at her interview. If I had the 10 year residency papers, maybe we could have tried to get the CO to accept it but I guess we will never know.

The 10 year residency for yourself should be made be you and notarized in the US if you can. Most bank branches do notarization for free. I know the UPS Store does it for like $5-$10. Your wife should prepare her own 10 year residency and try to notarize it in VN.

OP - I had both, the timeline and 10 year and it was notarized. When CO asked my fiancee and I to submit all of our evidence we included it.

They were both notarized. Strangely, the CO asked me if I wanted to partake in interview which is unheard of.

The result was a pink slip!

My thinking was that I didn't want to give the CO any reason for denial.

Best wishes!

Better to have and not need then to need and not have. Although we prepared one and they didn't ask for it.

I agree with others here. It's easy to do. Spend an hour and get it done and also get it notarized.

Time is a big issue because the whole process takes so long. Careful preparation on your part will help to speed up things and also prove your genuine effort and genuine relationship.

I only turned in the 10 years residency and not the list of relative and got pink.

Although, I feel that you don't really need them at all if your case is solid (substantial relationship evidences, no red flags).

The CO will likely ask for these only if they were suspicious of your case and is trying to give you a hard time. Otherwise these things doesn't mean anything. I mean what the hell is the 10 year residency from both the petitioner and beneficiary.

What matters more is pictures of the both of you together. They only asked to see the pictures at our interview and it seems like they really enjoyed looking at our pictures.

Best of luck,

Doanh

Hi visajourney. I am noticing that the consulate now are asking for a list of family and relatives with evidence address such as photocopy of driver's license or utility bill from either the petitioner or the beneficiary. I am trying to get all my relatives photocopy of their driver's license in case the consulate ask my wife during her interview. I am wondering will a picture of their driver's license taken from a camera work instead of photocopying? I am doing the CR-1 process and currently at NVC waiting for interview date. Thanks everyone.

I am asking about utility bill or photocopy of driver's license.

Still the same question. Use one thread. It keeps the conversation in one place. You get better answers.

as already noted above - it's better to keep it in one thread rather than generate a bunch of threads.
