Work friends gave me this map when I worked in the UK. I used to keep above my desk....its a little outdated. Osama is in the wrong country and I think Hobbits have replaced Xena. Probably should have some more bomb locations too.

Like many people here I have traveled the world a bit.. Conversations along these lines have come up time and and again. At a recent dinner in a restaurant in Medellin we had three Americans and nine Colombians. One of the Colombian men at the table was explaining to me the various problems with my country - one of them being race issues which I found Ironic as he had tried to keep his daughter from marring a man he thought was too dark skinned. He passed that off as a cultural thing and not a racist thing. I've seen the same thing to a much higher degree in other countries (Haiti, DR) and they never seem to think of it as being racist.

The second thing was of course Americans view of the world and how we do not understand the rest of the world.. Again: I was at the table with nine Colombians - all of them knew Obama but when I asked the name of their own president all I got was silence followed by a three minute confab before they could cough up a name. They could not name any other world leaders. I've had similar experiences with people from other parts of the world..

Every country has its share of ignorant people - for various reasons people in other countries are very interested in what goes on in the USA and they love looking for what is wrong here. The ignorant are searched for and portrayed as the norm..

The maps in this post are no different than the other stupid sterotyping we see in the various other forums in regards to people from other countries... Self righteous people wanting to feel better about themselves by looking down on others.

The UK throwing rocks, go figure.

Were you working in the UK as a American or did you migrate here and become an American?

I was working in the UK as an American and funny enough the map was given to me by a fellow expatriate of the US.

I think your taking the maps too seriously btw. Every nation has a stereotypical view of the world. I'm sure it would be easy enough to make a UK version.
