I'm saying that most of us in the West don't think twice about referring to bin Laden as Muslim, but do get all twisted if Breivik is referred to as a Christian (he called himself that, no one else is making it up).

I think that's pretty trite, to be honest.

I don't think there is much doubt that Bin Laden was brought up as a devout muslim and that saw himself as some sort of religious figure. Certainly he presented his philosophy using religious language and had a fairly sizeable following that did the same. That said, he clearly didn't represent the majority of muslims around the world.

What we have from this one guy is a random statement about his being a moderately religious protestant.

I'm not sure what's actually known about that. The guy was a freemason and the Knights Templar crop up a lot in relation to them (as well as the illuminati for people who believe in that stuff). It's all bollocks.

When Muslims blow stuff up and people say they aren't "real Muslims", the reaction is invariably derisive laughter.

The same should be true here.

They aren't real Muslims. If that makes you laugh, have at it. If you also believe that this murderer's actions reflect real Christianity, you're also wrong about that.
