Hey Everyone,

So it's that time again, I'm almost done with my N400 application but I've got a question about Part 9. Information About Your Children. I'm applying under the 3 year rule based on marriage and I've got a stepson. The instructions say that I need to add him as one of my children. Do I also need a birth certificate for him for the interview? Many thanks for all the help!

No, I don't think you'll need his birth certificate. The interview letter only tells you to bring birth certificates of children born in your current marriage - as proof of relationship.

I just had my interview and I listed my step kids on the N-400. The IO asked me about them but never asked for the birth certificates. But on the Notice for the Interview, a checklist includes to bring all your children's birth certificate. I brought my step kids birth certificate...

Only response my wife got after listing our eight joint kids was none of them would automatically become US citizens with her citizenship application.

No birth certificate needed and I was not asked about either my 2 USC stepsons or my own daughter who is 19 and has her own GC.

Very familiar with the word "redundancy" in designing avionic systems for aircraft, certainly logical to have backup systems in case of failure as your life and the life of others depends on it.

But that word brought about new meaning in filling out the N-400 and providing all the same evidence and documentation again, inefficiency, we didn't provide anything that they didn't already have.

To the best of my knowledge, our three inch thick folder, all duplicates was in Nebraska, Missouri, California, Missouri again, Texas, Missouri, then St. Paul. Have no idea where it is now, but was certainly misplaced several times. Maybe that is why the fees are so high, freight costs.
