Long range planning...

OK...this is long-range planning to the extreme (given my wife's son arrives in September) but what will I need to prove, or produce as evidence, to get him his 10-year GC in two years?

For the wife it was kind of obvious what they would want (even though the USCIS still required more proof after I filed). What will I have to produce to put a smile on the USCIS's face? Photos together? Driver's license with address on it? Mail addressed to him at my home?

Please advise.

BTW, my wife's studying for citizenship. Man, this immigration story never ends. Feels like I keep having to climb another rung on the USCIS ladder...just when I think I can rest for awhile.

Instructions are here: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-751instr.pdf . Look on the first page under "What initial evidence is required?" and the second page under "evidence of relationship."

Also, take a look over in the removing conditions forum. Some people provide photos, some don't. Personally I get the impression they don't really care about photos, but on the other hand others swear by it. But overall the evidence required is pretty common sense. Show real, credible evidence that you live together as man and wife. Good luck!

Basically the same we provided for our sons 10 year green card. That they are the son of your wife and that you and your wife are still married and living as husband and wife. The IR-2 is derivitive of your wife's. I am preparing Sergey's (age 20) right now. He is on my medical insurance, listed on my tax return as a dependent and I am listed as an emergency contact on all his important documents, medical records, etc. I attached copies of recent documents for Alla and I that show we are currently married. A copy of his birth certificate and Alla's green card

Thanks...but this is about my wife's son. I've already done the wife's 10-year GC deal.

The story will end after she gets her blue passport.

... and then it'll open back up when she wants a friend or relative to visit. "What did we send last time? Was it three years or five years? Did we do taxes or just bank statements? Oh, I don't remember, just send 'em a check stub."

I have to agree with Gary. Provide the same type of detail for your stepson, but make sure it shows you're still supporting him or that he can now support himself. School records, insurance coverage, copies of tax returns all make good evidence. The 10 year green card is much easier than the 2 year card. If there is one thing I would definitely say is to file within that 90 day window before expiration of the two year card. If you miss that timeline you will have a lot more problems. And remember it is 90 days or less, so don't file before 90 days starts.
