Why does the government need to offer anything? The problem begins with the concept that it is the government's job and that the GOP does not do it.

It is not the governments job to offer anything to anyone. Except protecing our rights. The government needs to get the heck out of the way and let us do what is best for our families. I am not waiting for the government to do anything for me, they cannot even close Guantanamo prison.

The poor and young do not need the government. There are more poor people saince the government declared war on povert...amd lost. The young will get old all by themselves.

Just like in the FSU you need the government in America to do what individuals cannot do.. like Infrastructure for a start. Young people old people, white people black people, rich people poor people need to be able to transport themselves to work. With the exception of a handful of sinfully rich people with helipads on the roof of their own mega structures the rest of US need state, federal and local governments to provide the transportation routes to get us to and from our daily grind where we earn our bread by the sweat of our brow. If you think getting the government out of our way will provide a way for the infrastructure to be built by individuals banding together to create it think again.

I am not saying the government does not need to do ANYTHING, I am saying they do not need to do EVERYTHING. Public roads are built by private contractors.

It is not necessary for the government to give anything to the poor or the young other than an opportunity to do better for themselves. When it is beneficial to us, we can pool our money and build things we all need.

The difference is that I beieve the list of things people "can't do" is very short and usually involves heavy machinery. Otherwise I believe in YOUR ability to make good decisions for YOUR family. NO ONE can have a more immediate impact on my family than myself. I can increase our income, cut our expenses...right now. I hammered out new deals on cell phones and auto/home insurance in the last few weeks saving us more than $200 per month. That's $200 more for US. NOTHING the government is discussing (or is likely to agree on) will have even that much affect on my family.

I believe everyone can do the same.

Incidentally, I have been building infrastructure for 35 + years.

The typical phoney liberal blather is "what about children and old people?" (insert "poor people" or any other group the phoney liberals have determined are unable to care for themselves) There is no specifics of what the "government" will do, should do, or even wants to do. Only that the "GOP" (fill in political party) doesn't want to "do it" whatever "it" is.

And my family should rely on people like this...or on their husband and father? What do you think?

Private contractors build public roads? What are you trying to prove with that statement, Captain Obvious?

As for government providing the young with the opportunity to do better, a first class public education system accessible to all is the foundation of that. And that foundation is crumbling. Ever more so since certain politicians have decided to make the workforce of that system a political punching bag and removing any incentive for the best and brightest to enter that workforce.

When you went over the expenses did you decide to cut back on food to Grandma or reduce her allowance for medication? Did you decide to raid the money that was paid in over the years and set aside in that specific savings account (medicare and Social Security)to pay for other "more important things" like fighting a war in a foreign country, or building prisons to incarcerate marijuana users, or spread the wealth to give subsidies to farmers, oil barron's or tax breaks to people who don't need tax breaks?

As for increasing income 10% of the population is without jobs many of which have been outsourced or moved to foreign countries to consolidate even more wealth in the hands of people who are hell bent on decimating the economy even further. How does it lift your boat or better our common cause to give a bigger slice of the pie to those that already have had more than a fair share?

I like my fire, police and emergency services. I want services to the elderly so we can be productive and not have to quit our jobs to care for parents at home. I like the public parks and open spaces and the museums and the enviornmental protections. I have traveled where they don't have these things and choose to live here where my quality of life is substantially more comfortable than many other places.

If you have been building infrastructure for 35 years you know the government is key in planning and funding those projects so if the government decides to spend less on infrastructure and more on drug wars, foreign wars and wars on immigrants or unions and the middle class it may well have an effect on your family. Further the money you have been setting aside for retirement and elder care Social Security and Medicare is INSURANCE not an 'entitlement" and if your private insurance company decided to change the contract after 35 years and give the money to someone else or use it for some other purpose you might be screaming bloody murder. Ooops you cannot collect at the time we agreed on we just randomly decided you need to do back breaking work for another 4 years and retire at 79.

And Yes helping the poor and the disabled and disadvantaged helps everyone since they are not breaking into my home or yours to get food, money and the necessities of life. The rich and greedy seem to always live in gated community with private security ...... signs of things to come if we continue the war on the middle and lower classes.

I don't bleed for old people. They have most of the wealth in the country, and their share is getting larger. Nobody gets to live forever, and why should they all be on the government dole, at the expense of those just getting started in the world? Old people are evil, thieving, and heartless. Don't let grandma fool you! She just wants your money.

All good reasons government needs to stay out of things. Why are they confiscating money to "give to grandma" and then giving it to farmers, oil barrons and tax breaks to people that don't need tax breaks? If they did not confiscate the money to begin with we would all be able to be better off. How are we better to let the government make the decisions rather than ourselves? Your post makes my point entirely.

If we had no income tax, there would be no income tax breaks. FAIR TAX! I favor legalizing marijuana, always have. Silly to spend billions to fight a plant that grows anywhere. It is less destructive than beer, which is legal. If I was going to declare war on a plant, it would be kudzu.

No need for the wars we are currently fighting, never was. UBL could have and should have been taken care of clandestinely for a lot less $$$. Iraq? Who cares? None of our business. There was nothing happening that could not have been taken care of with spy satellites and cruise missiles.

I never TOOK money from Grandma so I did not have to cut what I GAVE BACK to Grandma.

Clearly my ideas are lost on people that think other people are incapable.

As I have pointed out before, government involvement in education is not a good thing but thanks for the reinforcement. What we need is a first class education system, it does not have to be done by the government.

Again, the premise begins with the government, this is the problem. The idea that ONLY the government can do this, when it is not true. The government has a fairly well proven record of failing at most things. You begin each idea with "what is the best way for government to..."

Blaming the failure on one party or another is not the issue. But is the REASON not to include the government. Are you suggesting that government run the system but we only have ONE political party? How did that work out for the FSU? The problem is that politicians are allowed anywhere near the process. When you allow politicians into the process you cannot avoid "certain politicians" so just keep them all out. Why does ANY politician have the ability to remove incentives to be teachers? Who gave them that ability? We must have been high on drugs!

The way to correct tha damage inflicted by Republicans on our lives is to eliminate Republican's involvement in our lives to any degree possible. And, oh yeah...Democrats too.

Do you realize that it is disrespectful to refer to persons of the Caucasian race as "whitey"? In some situations thems is fighting words depending on who and how it is said. I'm not pissed...just trying to educate.

No you get a pass if you use anything derogatory and it refers to a white. Must be a noob.whistling.gif

So what you are saying is that because of government help there are less poor people now than before? Right? Or are you saying that despite all the government help there are MORE poor people than before but only because we need MORE government help?

Or are you saying that poor people cause crime? And burglars are trying to get the "necessities of life" So they are trying to steal Kraft macaroni and cheese? Bread? Miracle whip?

Who is making war on the middle class? Government? So why are you against getting the government out of our lives as much as possible?

Isn't this exactly the point? Government has done all of these things yet I think that most of us can say that we haven't. You are a better manager of your money than government is.
