Rice-a-roni, the San Francisco treat!

http://en.wikipedia....iki/Rice-A-Roni

Ahhh! Good call!

I forgot about that stuff. I probably haven't eaten it in 25-30 years. For some reason, I remember it more as a consolation prize on old game shows than as an actual meal!

If you know how to use a rice-cooker or pressure-cooker, then "instant" rice doesn't save any time. Plus, one guarantee with it--it never really turns out well. :P

in my rice cooker it takes like 25 minutes,, the minute rice takes 5 minutes or less..if I need some rice quick I will use the minute rice

Indian / punjabi Basmati rice is the best!!! Too bad I cannot eat rice since I am dieting. :(

Yummmmmmmmmmmmmy!

Solution--buy brown basmati and reduce the amount of rice replacing it with meat/veggies.

Rice is a serious subject for Asians. They will even check the crop date to make sure they are getting the freshest possible product. Aroma and kernel size has a lot to do with how the rice tastes and cooks. There is even a ritual of washing the rice twice, and using your fingers to measure the rice and water.

The love of my life: Kokohu brand rice, the one with the pink rose in it. Super smooth and chewy...yum...yum! It's great with anything from adobo, pansit, beef soup to dried fish. Hubby and I can't live without it! My ratio of rice and water is 1:1. I wash it first before cooking. Happy eating!

Three Ladies Jasmine Rice is the brand we've been buing since I arrived here. I haven't tried any other brand because I like this one a lot.

Do they ever serve rice with spaghetti in Ecuador? They do in Colombia all the time, LOL. It's the weirdest thing but they love rice so much that they'll serve a side of white rice with pasta.

If my stepdad doesn't eat rice for lunch, then he says "he hasn't had any lunch yet". I guess other foods don't qualify as lunch food
