With a wife from Thailand, it has to be Thai jasmine rice. Rin will only buy Three Ladies brand and is always on the lookout for when the "new crop" arrives. Has to re-calibrate/adjust her water ratio and cook time.

We bought a 25 pound sack of Blue Ribbon Rice at Costco. It has some other foreign names on it too, but it is supposed to be guaranteed to be the best quality rice! It think it says that it is enriched, what ever that means. We eat a quite a bit of rice. My wife is not that fond of it, but me, our kids, and our grandkids love it.

Has to be Jasmine rice. The brand name is unimportant so far but the price is important. I lobe Basmati rice from the India restaurant so we bought a small bag but when my babe cooked it and we tried it was dry. At our Asian market they have maybe 20-30 kinds of Jasmine rice.

In Colombia we eat a lot of rice, whether it's served as a main dish like arroz con pollo (chicken and rice) or as a side dish to our main meal. My favorite is Mahatma.

Whatever the 50 lb bag of long grain white rice from Costco is. It seems to work fine for everything my wife makes. At least she's never mentioned that it tastes different than what she's used to and she's usually pretty quick to point out subtle (to me) differences in taste.

I also like jasmine and basmati rice as well as long grain brown rice but it really depends on what I'm making. I doubt that I'd ever get her to incorporate any of those into her Colombian cooking, especially the brown rice since she doesn't like it. That and she seems very hesitant to make changes to the dishes she cooks whereas I am more about tweaking a dish with new flavors or inventing my very own recipes right on the spot.

She always thinks I'm crazy when I tell her "This would also be good with......" (but has always been pleasantly surprised by my culinary alterations.)

I realize bread is more popular than rice in the US, but many immigrants grew up eating rice everyday. If this applies to you, what brand and type do you prefer here in the US?

Our favorite is "Imperial Dragon" Jasmine Rice from Thailand.

Whenever I visit Ecuador, rice ends up coming out of my... uh, nalga, si man. Since Mrs. T-B.'s arrival, the menu has been much the same, although it's lightening up in favor of spaghetti and pasta.

Do they ever serve rice with spaghetti in Ecuador? They do in Colombia all the time, LOL. It's the weirdest thing but they love rice so much that they'll serve a side of white rice with pasta.

My mother-in-law was amazed at "minute" rice here in the U.S. -- no need to cook it for half the day or however long non-minute rice typically takes.

If you know how to use a rice-cooker or pressure-cooker, then "instant" rice doesn't save any time. Plus, one guarantee with it--it never really turns out well.

My wife likes the Calrose Bouton rice better than Jasmine rice. She says it has too much of an odor to it.

Jasmine rice for me too. I had a hard time convincing others that not all rice taste the same.
