I am A U.S. Citizen married to a Canadian Citizen. Our priority date is June 2004. We are still awaiting the NVC to get us an interview in Montreal. We have been 4 years this month. Does anyone know how long after the interview if it is approved, before she can re-enter the US.

It should only take a few days. why has it taken so long if you are a American Citizen there should be no priority day.

The NVC actually calls it a reciept date. Our 130 was In February of 2006, then we had to file an I824 to egt the paper work to the NVC. We were recieved there in May of 2006. All has been recieved and reviewed. We have been told. We traveled in Dec 05, without an approved ap. Big Mistake. Re-entery denied. All other paper work except 130 abandoned. Hopefully we get an interview this year.

You will get the visa the next day after the interview in Mtl and she can immediately cross over to the USA. Wow, you must be having some serious problems if you applied back in 2004, hope all smoothens out

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

boboroad, it would help many people if you put your history in a signature. There are many Can-Am folks who believe there's little risk trying to enter the U.S. during the visa process. It seems you're paying a heavy price. Which Port of Entry denied you?

I am new this thread. So I will try to get the information in, I may need some help. The POE was Ambassador Bridge. There is great risk involved traveling WITHOUT your APPROVED AP! We even have our congress person and they seem to be trying, and have managed get information, for the information we would need to get. So atleast when we received our letters we already had our needed documnets to send back to the NVC.

I think it might be the other way around. It sounds like the poster's wife was in the US and filing to adjust status within the US but travelled to Canada without an approved AP. Because she left the country without permission from immigration, she was deemed to have abandoned her immigrant applications and they had to start all over again from the beginning - from outside of the US. Is that correct? Excellent example of what happens for those who think it is safe to travel without that AP in hand. Basically, you are trying to get her 'back home' to the US, right? Good luck. Once you get the interview, the visa should be available the next day.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Correct, she was already here in the U.S.. As of yesterday, our package was completed at the NVC. They said they sent a request to Montreal for expdited services, hope this goes well. Canada is really starting to give me hard time about going back and fourth, they have been starting to accuse me of trying to immigrate, this is probably because I can not go every weekend. Guess now we wait for a date?
