DS 156

Hi,

can anyone tell me, do i need TWO copies of the DS 156 to take to INTERVIEW?

I only printed 2 off originally and sent one off with my packet 3, which leaves me with 1.

Im concerned that if I indeed DO need 2 copies to take to interview, that the bar code numbers will be different as I will need to re-complete and print a 2nd copy off.

My understanding was, that you send 2 copies of it as your packet 3?! But if all you want to do is get another copy can't you just photocopy the one you have which will not affect the bar code.

Complete the Form DS-230-Part 1, Form DS-156 and DS-157 for each family member applying for a visa. In addition, the principal applicant is also required to complete form DS-156K. Note: Forms DS-156 and DS-157 must be completed in duplicate...

Don't get discouraged though make a photo copy of the one you have to keep and when you go to the interview present the original one saying it was accidentally omitted from your packet. Must of fallen off desk, etc..

I think you'll be fine!

The barcode comes from only the information you enter in the form. They can scan the code to put the data into the computer faster. If you include the same data, then the barcode would be the same. But making a photocopy is faster.

Probably not. I'm sure you're not the first who didn't read their web instructions carefully. Take spare copies and sort it out there. Call DOS and ask if they show you as "interview ready" meaning London has your forms, DS2001, cover letter and medical results.

Are the DOS open to call on weekends or will it be Monday now?

I misread the instructions thinking of it as complete (not send) the forms in duplicate which I did, god what a stupid mistake

Don't beat yourself up over it. You arent the first and not the last. It happens! We're human right? The DOS is closed on weekends. They used to be open on weekdays till midnight but that must have changed cause yesterday I tried to call as a test for someone and the recording now says Mon-Fri, 8:30am - 5:30pm. The number is 202 663-1225. Have your fiance call from the US. It is a Washington DC number. Have your LND number ready and ask what Nich-Nick said, if you are "Interview Ready"

I forgot to mention that when you call press 1 then 0 to speak to a person.

G-- I think you're remembering NVC with the late phone hours--midnight Eastern time. I think DOS has always been kind of a weekday, 9 to 5 kind of place.

Fiance called DOS this morning, they said london has received my packet 3 but no interview has been scheduled

I will try again tomorrow, coming up to 4 weeks since they received my packet 3 now, it's so disappointing . We were hoping to get married on the anniversary of our engagement (26th August).

But they don't put you in the interview queue until everything is in, including medical results. So your medical was July 5 and if the results got to the embassy by July 11, then you just passed two weeks of waiting, not four. Still disappointing. Did you give them that August date as your planned wedding in the cover letter that goes with the DS-2001? You'll have to call the embassy and ask for the email code if you want to try to shake an appointment out of them. Then you could email and beg for a cancellation or anything available on short notice.

hiya, yes i included that date in the cover letter. What do i ask for if i should call the embassy, just an "email code"?

I didn't ever really deal with the embassy. Maybe explain you've had everything in since June and your wedding date is x number of days away. Ask to speak to some one who can help--an officer who can give you an appt. Ask a couple of times--"Pleas, can't I speak to someone who can help me today?" She'll likely offer you the code and tell you to email them. Sometimes I think that might work better than just calling and saying "Hello, may I have the code?" I dunno, maybe somebody that had good luck with them will have a better idea.

I called and explained my situation and was given an email code easily enough. But a week after I emailed them they replied saying they couldnt move my interview date. Still waiting..
