Shes here on a K1 visa, we got married a few weeks ago and we just sent the AOS paperwork so we're waiting for it to be approved. She wants to finish her Barchelor's degree and then go to law school.

I am going to grad school next month and I was awarded funding from my school.. About half of the tuition is cut off.. Next schoolyear I will apply for FAFSA since I missed the deadline this year. FYI my school accepted me without a GC but they told me I couldn't start without having the GC. Also, I am paying out-of-state because there is a 1-yr residency requirement that I could not fulfill but I don't want to wait a year to start school. :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

On the contrary, there are many scholarships available for Latino Women, but you have to dig for them and many of them are career specific. In this case you need to look for law scholarships for Latinos or immigrant women.

When I stated nothing, I was referring to none us citizen or gc holders.

A journey it has been!!!

I don't know specifically about a GC holder but I received a lot more free funding and grants from a University of California school rather than a state school. Oh, and try not to get "unsubsidized" loans as the interest accrues while you are still in school! Good luck :)

These are just a few scholarship search engines that are available. There are many more.

She can get started with school while you await the outcome of your AOS but once she becomes a permanent resident many more options at the federal and state level will open up. Loans are always an option too and with the exception of local community colleges are usually required in most cases.
