DV2012 - Dumbing down the instructions? :)

Hi All,

My gf checked her DV 2012 status online yesterday and realized she's been selected for further processing. I've gone through J1 > H1B > 10yr PR GC, but personally, the instructions for what she has to do next are a bit confusing. Wondering if there's an idiots guide to DV2012?

She's from Asia and is already in the US (F1 > H1B) and currently employed in a medical field.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

She will be able to apply for AOS if she is still in the US when her number becomes current. She has a number like 2012ASAxxxxxxxx and each month they process a new lot until they get to the max allowed for the year. Some winners will never get a chance at a visa because they will run out before they get to the number. How "big" is her number ? The lower the better. The monthly numbers get posted starting this October. When her number is current she can file AOS using the I 485 form set.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

If I recall correctly, her # is about 53,000. Not ideal...

So, she just checks each month until her @ is within a specified range... Then sends in I-485? Can't do anything until after Oct 1 besides collecting all required documentation for I-485?

So, 55k x .07 = 3850.

Looking at the Visa Bulleton, if the # listed for that persons country is higher than 3850, they can't file I-485?
