Has anyone who did use a marriage broker as defined in the IMBRA, or who used something similar even if it escaped the designation as defined in the Act, gotten to the visa interview yet?

I'm wondering how consular officers are handling the issue of determining that the visa applicants were fully informed of their USC fiance(e)'s background. Are they 'glossing over' it, or are they probing deeply?

I expect that there will be experiences all over the range eventually, but I'm curious to learn how this is being handled initially.

seldi,

Perhaps you're right - no one else has responded. But there have been a lot of approvals - surely some of them must have involved an IMB or something similar.

Maybe all of the post-IMBRA approvals are still waiting for interview.

I have been wondering the same thing so am glad you asked. I have started a thread in the Foreign Embassy Forum for details of interview in relation to those who checked that they met through a MB. Hopefully we will all be able to get some insight into this issue at the consulate level once interviews start to be held for those members.

I answered "yes" to the Agency question. Had no additional inquiry into the case at VSC, NVC, or Kiev Embassy.

My Fiancee had her interview 9/18. She passed. (of the 8 who were there with scheduled interviews, only 2 passed because their packets were complete! Go VJ!!!)

There were no Agency specific discussions other than when she responded as to how we met. There was no line of questioning about my (presumably sordid) past.

Perhaps the true thumb-screwing and iron-madening will begin after the purchase requests have been authorized with FY2007 money.

In all IMBRA ate up 6 months of our life together and denied us the Summer of (love) 2006. Far worse than thumb screws....

Joe,

Thanks for the report and congratulations on the successful interview.

Is your past "sordid", or is it a blank sheet of paper? If the latter I would not expect any questions - nothing to question. But if the former, I'm wondering about 'Did you know this?' questions, and what might happen in the event of 'No, I didn't know that!' answers.

I know in my situation, I was asked my the MB to prepare answers to a questionaire to which my fiance was provided two copies of my answers. She was required by the MB to sign and date it. She was told to keep one for herself and one was returned for the MB's files. I am hoping that when the interview occurs, we will have remembered to have this with us so that if any questions are asked (I do not have a "sordid" past other than a previously filed k-1), she can if she needs to show them what she was provided by the MB.
