Moving to RUB forum, members there will be able to better advise you.

If you're married in USA, you may have to register your marriage with the Ukrainian consulate/embassy in the US. They'll then get you registered in Ukraine as a married person. Look up Ukrainian embassy website to figure out how the procedure goes.

Both the USA and Ukraine are signatories of the "Hague Marriage Convention" which recognizes that marriages that have legal status in one country is valid is any other (that signed the treaty).

Now there are still likely to be some additional paperwork to provide to the respective foreign government, but that doesnt mean that the wedding is not valid in both countries.

We are going to get married in the US on August 20th. We heard from family in Ukraine that our US marriage will not be legal in Ukraine. Anyone know anything about it?> I never heard of such a thing.

It IS legal in Ukraine but until it is registered they just do not know about it.
