I'm nearly 100% sure on this, but we have 6 months from the time of the interview/getting the visa to actually use it, is this correct? Originally we were going to try to marry before my fiancé's deployment but we will have to wait until after because we won't have it in time. I will probably have an interview in November-ish and He will return home in March. We should have enough time without the visa expiring, no?

The visa is valid for 6 months from the date of issue...meaning you have slightly less than 6 months to enter the US. Then you have 90 days after entering the US to get married.

I am not 100% sure about this, but I think with deployment, one may qualify for an "expidited" process...possibly so that hopefully you can get your interview before deployment.

Yes, it is almost always 6 months; sometimes less, if you ahd your medical early.

Yes you are right, you have 6 months to go to the US and then 3 months to marry once you enter the US.

You have to wonder though, there really should be some sort of extension allowed in the case that he couldn't return home a couple months later than March, because of military deployment. But government doesn't always do what makes sense.

thanks to everyone who responded. I'll make sure to do a late-ish medical so I have the full 6 months to work with. I was tired and a little panicky last night when I wrote the post. Thanks for clarifying!

We were actaully going to try to do that and got an expedition on our petition at USCIS for that reason but we recently decided we would rather wait if we can. I'd rather spend my first 5 months of marriage with my husband rather than away from him, and then I'm left in a strange place in the US completely and 100% alone which I'd rather not do.

You would think they'd allow an extension since we very obviously cannot possibly get married, but I haven't been able to find evidence of any extension. We'll certainly look into it because as you mentioned it's certainly possible he might get extended. Keep your fingers crossed for us!
