Which POE?

OK...my wife's son FINALLY got his visa after 12 months of ####### with the USCIS incompetents and the embassy that likes to loose my documents.

But that's behind us. Now we need to fly him here to clear the last hurdle...POE.

My question is this...if he enters the US in NY but his final destination is DC, where will he be processed into the country (POE #######)? The issue is connecting times are tight if he lands in NY and needs to catch a flight on to Dulles. It seems they'd process him at Dulles (final destination) but not sure. My wife came in on a direct flight from Moscow to DC, so I have no prior experience with this issue. And, no, it's no longer affordable to do directs from Moscow to DC...way crazy.

Please advise. Thanks.

Port of Entry is first place landed in US (except for some prescreening locations at foreign airports). You state that his first arrival is NY so that's where it will be. Allow for at least 2 hours to clear customs, etc. Last couple of times I've picked folks up at JFK it's been longer.

Like the poster above pointed out...it's the first place in the US where you enter, which in this case is NY. And make sure you allow for those two hours and then some. I would be redoing the tickets.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

POE porcessing will take place in NY. As others have said, allow enough time to make the connection.

Thanks to all for info.

I had to bite the bullet and go nonstop Moscow to DC. It was a lot more but all the flights from NY to DC had 2-hour connections...plus making him deal with the crazy NY airport seemed almost cruel. I could have gone Air France through Paris but the savings were $250...not enough to put him through dealing with the French. :)

He would do his POE at JFK and I would allow four hours between flights. A person can easily spend 2+ hours in customs at JFK. Then you usually have to go to another terminal and check in 90 minutes vefore a domestic flight. When Sergey came in a couple weeks ago it was nearly 2 hours before he came out, most of it waiting for his luggage.

I agree, Paris is the worst airport in the world. It is the ONLY place that ever lost mt luggage and they lost it EVERU time I went through there! I avoid it like the plague. If I was GOING to Paris, I would fly to Brussels and take a train.

A couple of years ago we flew to Paris, and for 4 days my luggage was lost. Turns out it was sitting at the airport in Newark.

The POE can be a pain or a breeze, but mostly a lot slower than people expect. Flying him into DC is way better and worth the extra cost. There have been times when the POE examination takes up to 4 hours. I always recommend that people we bring into the country for the first time land at an airport where you are waiting for them. Besides the problems of customs, there is also the problem of missing baggage and probably a list of other things that can slow down the process.

You made the right decisions and your wife will thank you immensely, after she's done caring for her son.

Egad si, man. If possible, on a nonstop flight, too.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The last time I went through Paris was when we had our visa interview. It was during this time I was making a lot of trips to Ukraine and bringing back suitcases full of Alla's stuff. On this trip, inside one of the bags was her wedding dress and they LOST IT! I warned her about Paris! The bags eventually showed up on my porch 3-4 days later and inside the suitcase a container of shampoo had been broken and it was all over her dress! Fortunately it didn't stain anything but I had to have the dress cleaned before she got here.
