What happens if US Immigration and Customs make me miss my Connecting Flight?

Hi all,

I'm departing my country Philippines this Saturday, July 23.

I have 4 layovers with 4 different airlines... This is the cheapest ticket

we could find. We booked my ticket with expedia

CEBU -> Manila : Philippine Airlines

Manila -> Japan : Japan Airlines

Japan -> Denver : Continental (but there's a Plane Change in Seattle)

Denver -> Minot : United

*The Connection time in between these flights is only about 2 hours and 25 minutes

Questions:

1. What will happen if I miss my connecting flight due to a delay of my first flight?

2. My third flight is from Japan to Denver but there is a "Plane Change en route" in Seattle,

so is Seattle my Point of Entry? And do I need to go through Immigration and Customs in

Seattle? Do I need to collect my bags in Seattle?

3. What will happen if US Immigration and Customs make me miss my flight?

4. Do I need to collect my bags in Japan?

I called all the airlines but the agent just told me to ask the agent at the check-in counter.

They were not very helpful at all.

ANSWERS:

1 - Wherever you are, the Airline that you'll be late from the flight, should grant you the next flight's ticket free of charge (that's usually the policy with Airlines, though there are exceptions - you might want to check with that specific airline)

2 - Your POA is the 1st city you arrive to in USA - Thus, Denver, CO should be it. I'm not sure if you have to collect your baggage before your next flight, but on the way to USA POA, the flight attendants can clarify that for you (if you haven't clarified yet) & help you fill out the immigration form that you need to present at customs.

3 - See reply 1 - they'll all have to grant the flight, because you paid for a flight, no matter the time differences, it's still the same flight distance you paid for.

4 - You Don't have to collect your bags in Japan, because your Final Destination Country is USA ;)

GOOD LUCK IN USA!

What will happen when a UFO hovers about the airport and beams you up, then uses you for medical experimentation? Will they release you? What about your baggage? Will your visa expire?

You are trying to figure out how to cross rivers and bridges that are nowhere to be seen.

If you miss a connecting flight . . . darn . . . you take the next one. There can be fog, freezing rain, or a runway closure due to an emergency landing. Or a terrorist attack. Who knows.

Eventually you will land in the US of A, and you will be processed by CBP, and at that point you'll know which your point of entry was.

Take it easy. Don't worry about things that may never happen in your life. I, personally, am not directly opposed of being aboard an extraterrestrial spaceship, but I really don't want them to cut me open!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

Your POE will be Seattle. You will clear customs there and then go to the continuation of your flight. There is a 2 hour gap from arrival to departure. As it's a continuation they are likely to hold the flight until everyone clears. Unless you are delayed in arriving. In that instance you would likely be booked on the next available flight. It looks like there are 3 more most days.
