Does she want to work using the EAD?

You do not need EAD once you have adjusted.

I'm confused...we didnt even file for AOS YET...next week. I want her to work ASAP- should we apply for I765 now or are we not qualified until after we get her perm residence card and updated passport and ss card? Why can't able people be allowed to earn a living??? Is it better for honest people to become bums and sit around for paperwork that may never come? Why is this so hard and why have all of you wonderful people helped me SOOOOOO much more than my own attorney...never nmore than 45-100 seconds for me per call...literally...sounds annoyed I called with legit questions.

No, you can only file for EAD on behalf of the AOS (I-485). And it takes usually 90 days until the work permit is approved. Sorry, but she cannot work right away. I am not sure if she is eligble to work with her J1, is it expired? If not, I have no idea. You should ask a lawyer or try to find the answer online....

I hate it too that I cannot work right now, I am hoping to get my EAD asap. But all the people here share the same suffering! ;)

Good luck,

Anna.
