USCIS practices "CYA", as do most government agencies. This means "Cover Your A$". The processing times they post are rough averages meant to give them some latitude. They aren't required to lift a finger to help move your application along until you are past the posted processing times, so they have a motive to pad their numbers a little.

The VJ timelines are based on the experience of real people. There is no "CYA" fudge factor included. My only argument against relying on them is that they represent only a small fraction of the total applications, and VJ members tend to be better prepared with the proper documentation than most applicants dealing directly with USCIS. Also, not all VJ members post their information in the timeline database, or keep their timelines updated. This can throw off the averages.

Jim,

Maybe you know how this works...

Once a file has been submitted to the Chicago lock box, they check it for completeness and, if OK, cash the check and forward it to NBC. From NBC, it either goes to CSC (and you receive a notice of the transfer/arrival at CSC) or it gets sent to your local office (without any separate notification). If it is going to be sent to a local office, at what point would this be done? Before an interview letter is sent or after?

As we've heard nothing since the notice of the case being sent to NBC, we're assuming it was ultimately sent to our local office but we have had no interview scheduled yet. When my wife called earlier this week to check on the case/interview, they told her it was still a little under 4 months and they couldn't put in a service request yet but that it was very strange that we still had not been contacted about an interview date with so little time to go given that our office is not running behind and that they would make a note to look into it. (Could be standard USCIS BS and they won't do a thing at this point.)

It just got me to thinking that the AOS part of the packet we submitted is somehow still sitting at NBC - neither sent to CSC nor to our local office. unsure.gif

We know the processing times the processing centers from reading this forum. The I-485 is not adjudicated at MSC, but it stops there to approve your EAD/AP applications and also schedule your biometrics. Then it might go to CSC for processing with no interview, or go to a local office. If i goes to your local office and it is backlogged, then yes, you may be in for a wait. "Family-based" is only a VJ term. You're right though; the I-485 is not listed for processing times for CSC so you'll have to trust our estimates. Good luck.

I got my biometrics schedule today and I am still hoping that EAD would come in early after the biometrics. I am so eager to work already. I don't mind waiting for my GC. Compared to our K1 process waiting for my GC is not stressful because I am with my husband already.

We have received our NOA1 last Monday and my receipt number is starting with MSC. We mailed the petition to the Chicago Lockbox. I am now tracking the status of our cases online and I still have no idea where my case was routed.

Do anyone of you know where this MSC is? processing times?

MSC stands for Missouri Service Center.
