We have received our NOA1 last Monday and my receipt number is starting with MSC. We mailed the petition to the Chicago Lockbox. I am now tracking the status of our cases online and I still have no idea where my case was routed.

Do anyone of you know where this MSC is? processing times?

They might, they might not. Transfers to CSC are random so no one can tell. If they do, they will let you know.

It will either go to the CSC and you will not have an interview or it will be transfered to the local USCIS processing center nearest to where you live and you will have an interview. Of late, I would say the chaces of having an interview are greater than 75%, but it depends on your location. The VJ list for Denver shows just about everybody has had an interview. Do not worry. You should get you biometrics appointment, then the EAD/AP card and then the AOS. For us it was one month from NOA1 to the bio appointment, about one month for the EAD/AP card to arrive and one month for the AOS interview. It took 96 days to receive the GC. That was end of February to first part of June of this year.

Good luck--just think once this is completed you are done for 640 days.

MSC is the National Benefits Center located in Missouri. All the AOS start there; it's normal.

For EAD/AP, it's 3 months. For AOS, it's 4 months (or possibly longer) depending on your local USCIS office or if your AOS case ends up being transfered to CSC.

Where do you all get these processing times? When I check the USCIS website it doesn't list family based AOS at either the National Benefits Center (MSC) or the California Service Center. Why do you think that these centers processes family-based AOS when it is not listed on the website? Additionally, my local field office is swamped with AOS and the last one they processed was from Jan 7th! looks like i'm in for a wait. =/

We know the processing times the processing centers from reading this forum. The I-485 is not adjudicated at MSC, but it stops there to approve your EAD/AP applications and also schedule your biometrics. Then it might go to CSC for processing with no interview, or go to a local office. If i goes to your local office and it is backlogged, then yes, you may be in for a wait. "Family-based" is only a VJ term. You're right though; the I-485 is not listed for processing times for CSC so you'll have to trust our estimates. Good luck.

I trust the processing times from the USCIS over those on this website. If you look at the large service center processing schedules it says they adjudicate "employment-based adjustment applications" Still not convinced that they do Family based AOS over there. why would they indicate employment based only? I'm not saying you are wrong, just not convinced!

USCIS practices "CYA", as do most government agencies. This means "Cover Your A$$". The processing times they post are rough averages meant to give them some latitude. They aren't required to lift a finger to help move your application along until you are past the posted processing times, so they have a motive to pad their numbers a little.

The VJ timelines are based on the experience of real people. There is no "CYA" fudge factor included. My only argument against relying on them is that they represent only a small fraction of the total applications, and VJ members tend to be better prepared with the proper documentation than most applicants dealing directly with USCIS. Also, not all VJ members post their information in the timeline database, or keep their timelines updated. This can throw off the averages.

The way I understand it is the large service centers (CSC in this case) handle family-based I-485 cases on an overflow basis therefore they are not listed on the chart with official target timelines. The idea is that the family-based processing time for CSC should be less (but isn't always) than the local office that would have gotten it otherwise. Watching VJ turnaround times is the best way to know in this case.

Not that any of this means anything. Our local office says it's processing within the 4 month guideline but at 3 months and 21 days since NOA1, and without an interview scheduled yet, I don't see them meeting that goal unless we are pleasantly surprised by a GC in the mailbox because we were transfered to CSC and just never knew it. (We're assuming local office has our case since it hasn't been touched since the check was cashed.)
