Nigeria K-1 Visas

It seems to me that Nigeria is denying a lot of K-1 visas lately. Maybe it is my imagination, but it seems like the approval rate is going down. I worry as our interview is September 9. I have decided to travel there for the interview. I know what our red flags are so we are providing evidence to refute those. I have several thousand chats/emails, records of several phone calls a day, pictures, and letters from many of our family & friends. He will literally have to carry a large box to get all of our evidence in. Does anyone have any other ideas? I feel strongly that there can be no way that they can say our relationship is for immigration purposes, but we all know how things work. They will find SOME reason if they want to. Is there anything you wished you had done or will be doing to help ensure your visa is approved- other then the regular steps we all take. Thanks! And to those who's visas have been denied lately, I am so terribly sorry.

Another question I have is this; My understanding is once you are approved by USCIS then unless the consulate uncovers some material fact that you did not disclose then they must approve you. What is happening then? Because people are being denied without due to "relationship is for immigration purposes". It seems that many are getting caught up in the power struggle between the DHS & DOS.

Paper work has to be up to date...and you have to be ready and composed to answer every and any question . Being perceived as a high fraud country also doesn't help issues. I still think the Lagos embassy still has a high no of approvals and appointments. A visit to the Ghanaian ,Cameroonian or south African Portal will shock you. Remain positive NO consulate or CO can stop what was meant to be.

Nigeria is a high fraud consulate. If you look at the portal and the top 10 posters ( I am in there 2 times ) and half of them are not together now. Most of those who aren't together can tell you stories of being scammed into a marriage. I can tell you right now that about 1/4 to 1/2 of the couples getting approved through Lagos won't be together at the end of 3 years. Lagos knows this more than we do and it is their job to try to find the key to stem the flood of fake marriages. Sometimes they go overboard , like demanding that Joseph give them details of my classified work to get a visa. Yes it is a royal pain in the back side for those of us that deal with their seeming insane process and there were many times I wished we were dealing with one of the countries that hand out visas like candy to child brides ( only for husbands) The keys to proof in Nigeria seems to be that the whole commmunity knows about the relationship ( family isn't enough , if all your pictures are in the compound get out in public) You need to be known to the parents , the neighbors , the siblings and the sellers on the street. You need to show you talk alot, that you have plans for the future. You need to know each other inside out. Not just make daily calls , but make daily palns for the future.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I see you've been reading Marc's articles on the ILW site.

Must approve you? No, that it not correct. The consulate is not supposed to cite a reason which USCIS was aware of when the petition was approved. Unless you included all of your evidence with the petition, there will be more than adequate new material facts which could be uncovered at the interview on which to base a denial. This is where frontloading can be useful. If you know what circumstances are considered red flags at a particular consulate, and you know which of those red flags exist in your own case, then you can frontload evidence to address those red flags with your petition. This will hopefully take some ammunition away from the consulate at the interview.

there were many times I wished we were dealing with one of the countries that hand out visas like candy
Those of us who got hosed in Ecuador traded exactly these words, sigh man...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Don't let the outcome of others, become your nightmare and anticipated outcome in your case. NO one knows what the CO will do at the time of the interview. As I have indicated to you over the phone and in chats...you are much better prepared for this than we were.

With that said, you two will get through this regardless of what the CO says or decides. At the end, it will all work out somehow. Keep the faith and the love strong and take a deep breath and listen to the advice you are receiving from our pro members.

God bless and you are always in my prayers.
