Hello everyone, through this period me and my fiancee are trying to figure out what's best. We want to get married weather it be soon or nxt summer, we are both going to school in the fall we both have full ride scholarships so we don't need to pay for school. We are living off campus so we need to earn rent, also Its mandatory that I have the schools international insurance which is 70 a month. Ok here is the dilemma, my school will only allow me to work 8 hours a week, the school I'm transferring from I could 20

hours a week. we want to get married and file the forms

we need but they are so expensive. 1500 I think and we don't have that type of money, my question is does all those forms have to be completed, I mean all I want is to be able to work off campus to pay for rent, I know there is a ton on forms and some are for different things, is there a form that will be cheaper and just get me to be able to work. The other choice is marry nxt year when we can have a proper ceremony, save up for the forms, but it will be a big struggle, depending on family to help us through this first year. Thank you for reading, we both just want to be able to get through school and work for what we've got.

It doesn't matter with or without some parts ( EAD and AP) . AOS cost is 1070$ regardless. You also have to pay for a medical which is very expensive and not covered by medical insurance.

edit to add not to mention the fact of the I-130 fee as well as passport picture fees etc.

You can get married and file for AOS, your wife or fiancée or someone else like family member will need to sponsor your I-130.

You are asking for AOS(work permit) based on your marriage, you cannot just get married and start working you will have to do the AOS process and pay the fees for it.

I am not sure why your new school would not let you work 20 hrs on campus, which is permitted by the USCIS.

Work limit could be a condition of the scholarship?

We know about the sponsor and her family is sponsoring me, I would never breech my visa and work of campus without my aos all cleared. It's not a scholarship thing, it's the whole school, even Americans cannot work on campus more than 8 hours. I wish there was a different rule for internationals as we are not allowed to get a job anywhere else. Thanks for the replys everyone.

With the money you could make working more, you could pay back the $1500 or s fairly quickly. Might want to consider taking a loan from a parent or even a credit card, if you have a solid plan to pay it back soon. There's no way to avoid the cost. Good luck.

Make sacrifices to pay the payments. My wife sponsored me and she used to go out every thursday night in new york city, when i came and we decided to do this, she couldn't do that anymore to pay for the costs. It gets better once it's all sent off and done with.

Good luck!

If a family member is willing/able to lend you guys the money then marrying and applying now would be your best bet. The sooner you apply the sooner you will be able to work more and so be able to pay back the money and start building a better life together.

If you get married now you may be able to spread out the costs a little. For example, you do not need to send off the forms immediately after the medical so you can pay for that then breathe a little before shelling out the rest of the money. Civil surgeons vary, so finding one who isn't just trying to take your money is probably the best way to save money. When it comes to the forms, there isn't much you can do about the cost.

Thanks everyone, your feed back is very helpful, a loan from a family member is I think the best way, the sooner we start the aos process the quicker I can work and get it paid bck etc, and we make sacrifices everyday, we both work every hour of the day possible, but that's life and I'm not gripeing about that. They certainly do make it hard for internationals and I understand why with all the past tragetys the us has overcome. In a few years time we plan to get her citizenship for England it will be interesting to see the difference in the process. I'm sure I will post on here again soon once we figure it out and start the aos process. Thank you again.

That is werid, I am not sure they can over ride the Fed rule with their rule of not letting student work on campus for more then 8 hrs.

The rules are that international students can't work for more than 20 hours on campus but there isn't a minimum. Colleges do impose limits on student employees so that they can spread out the hours and give more students work opportunities.

I wish you the best, OP.
