(A VJ member asked me to submit this on her behalf. Apparently couldn't get verification email)

I have been residing in the US as a permanant resident since 2003. My mother has come to visit me twice on a visitor's visa and she is here with me now. During her visit here, my employment circumstances have changed and I would like to keep her here to help me with my toddler. I applied for my citizenship and recently it was granted. I would now like to apply for her to become a permanant resident. My understanding is that I should submit the I-130 and I-485 forms at the same time, since my mother is presently here in the US. In that case, what do I put on Part 2 "Application Type (check one)?"

Second question: since I am now a US, citizen, do I still put my A# on I-130 and I-485 documents when asked for it? I assume that the A# is no longer relevant since I am now a citizen.

Last question: On I-130, what address to give for my mother on section C "Information about your relative?" Do I give my address (where she is currently staying) or her address in China?

Thanks.

Pass this information to your friend...

For "application type" you would check box "a".

Your A# does not become irrelevant when you become a US citizen. It's still used to identify your immigration file. Enter your A# where requested.

Give her current address. On line 19 of the I-130 give her address in China.

My mother's visa expires on August 13. As long as our I-130 and I-485 petitions are received before then she will continue to be with status?

she'll be ok, a bit of limbo - but still ok until the casefile is adjudicated.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Are we still talking about your friend's mother?

Yes, she'll be in a period of authorized stay while the AOS paperwork is being adjudicated. She won't be out of status. However, even if she did have a brief period where she was out of status it won't matter. She's an immediate relative of a US citizen, so she can adjust status even if her non-immigrant status has expired.
