This research explains feminists..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

It is thought the difference may date back to the Stone Age, with women seeking out men who are more intelligent than them in a bid to pass on the best genes to their children.

But wouldn't these "smart genes," if, in fact, intellect was selected in males by prehistoric females, be passed equally to female off-spring?

Probably not, because (ironically) women who are less intelligent tend to sleep around more and get pregnant....... :P

so you're saying morally challenged women are stupid? :P

No, only that a stupid woman is more likely to be "morally challenged" than an intelligent one :P

The study was done on the SATs if I've heard correctly. This would assume that SAT scores are indicative of IQ.

I don't necessarily think that's the case.

Yep. No researcher worth his weight would measure intelligence based on aptitude test scores. For one, we know that there are many forms of intelligence. For example, I watched a program about a young man who can't even button his own shirt, but is a musical genius on the piano. Intelligence in fact is too broad a field to simply say that one group of people are more intelligent than others. We went through this controversy with the bell curve.

"...Most educators and many psychologists think intelligence tests measure - or ought to measure - something like the innate capacity or potential of the learner. This has always been a popular belief among both professionals and laymen. It is a personal theory that is staunchly held and, like other personal theories, is not easily altered by disconfirming evidence." (Lohman, 1993, p. 14)

The use of intelligence tests in the American education system is widespread despite the well documented shortcomings of these instruments. For instance, the fact that minority groups are overrepresented in special education and underrepresented in gifted and talented programs is but one example of how intelligence test scores, coupled with the results from other diagnostic instruments, are used daily to make decisions about eligibility for special programs.

...

Intelligence has been defined and studied under a number of different rubrics, among them individual differences, cognitive abilities, and aptitudes. Probably the most influential developments in our recent understanding of these concepts have come from educational and psychological researchers associated with cognitive psychology.

....

An important development in our understanding of intelligence, is the near universal agreement among researchers that at least some aspects of our intellectual abilities depend heavily on our experiential histories.

...

The state of affairs with respect to testing intelligence is interesting. Basically, current practice doesn't match the recommendations being offered by educational and psychological researchers. One question to be answered is, "Given our understanding of the nature of intellectual abilities, why do current intelligence tests remain so popular and the standard form of interpretation so pervasive?" In a provocative reply, Sternberg (1992) argues that market forces (i.e., the demands of test consumers) have retarded the development of new, more appropriate measures of intellectual abilities.

IQ tests measure one type of intelligence that happens to be a type nurtured in male children and not emphasized in female children.

SAT tests are a load of shite and have been proved again and again to have a weak relationship to scores on other measures of intelligence.

Taking into account multiple intelligences is important because everyone has strengths and weaknesses. I'm spatially retarded. I cannot make the damn 3D box out of the flattened box. It takes me a few attempts to put the file back in the filing cabinet facing the right way.

This is a type of intelligence emphasized on many IQ-type tests, and I think being bad at it is something I share with more women than men.

I don't know the details of the study, but let's say there is a test measuring only spacial intelligence. Then you test men and women, and the men generally do better.

We can then say that men are better at tests of spacial intelligence, but we can't say they were born that way. Men may also be more confident that they're good at certain tasks, which goes a long way.

Now the question is, which "type of intelligence" is more useful, spatial or "temporal"?
