I'm off at 1 pm for my Oath - it should hit 100 degrees or so today in the DC area - can hardly wait!

I dug through my old paperwork and cannot find my EAD or AP from the AOS process - I am positive I shredded them when I received my GC since they were no longer valid.

Since they instructed me to bring anything given to me by UCSIS from the last 3 yrs back to them today (the interviewer specifically mentioned EAD or AP documents) - has anyone else been in the position where they got rid of those and didn't have them to bring back at the Oath?

Wish they'd bothered to tell me 3 yrs ago what I needed to keep :) On the bright side I found my 2 yr GC so I'll bring that back.

I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, just curious.

Must be a field office thing, only thing we went in was with the oath letter, filled out except for the signature, wife and daughter signed that in front of the officer and their ten year green card. Like you, the USCIS never asked us to surrender that EAD or conditional green card at the time, completely worthless and mostly bad memories of the stress and worry to get those. Was glad to get rid of them. Would just say, the USCIS never requested those cards way back then, was worthless, so got rid of them. Here lately, some offices are asking for a state ID or drivers' license. May want to bring that along.

Done deal folks - I am officially a US citizen.

Arrived at 1 pm at Fairfax office - waited until my name was called - I handed in my GC, my old 2 yr GC (I didn't have the old EAD or AP) The guy at the wicket said it was no big deal. Had me sign something that looks similar to the citizenship cert (probably their copy).

Waited 10 minutes until they herded us up to the Oath ceremony room. After 20 minutes of speeches, the Oath ,the Pledge of Allegiance and the handing out of the certificates, we were done.

Passed by the SSN office on the way home and changed my citizenship status there, tomorrow I'll take my certificate to work so they can change my status in the HR system and then I'll go get a passport

PS: Lots of people brought too many relatives/friends - please take heed and DO NOT BRING EVERYBODY YOU KNOW - they really should limit it to 2 guests per person. My husband noted that there were at least a few families who brought very small children who did not know how to behave (or maybe it was the parents)and they really should have been left at home - they were honestly a disturbance to the proceedings which are important to those receiving citizenship.

So while people's children ran wild the ceremony tried to continue (don't give me grief - I have 3 of my own and when they were small, I left them at home ;) )

Congrats!

Well, if I leave my 4-year-old at home, than my husband is not coming, either... So I guess everyone is going to put up with my big loud family  Just kidding, all of my boys are pretty well behaved.

Congratulations.. finally done!!! I am planning to take one of my boys ( 5 and a half year old). He is very well behaved when my 7 year old is not around. They don't run or anything like that but can't keep silence when they are together....talk..talk...and more talk. And since my dearest cousin and her hubby are going to be there with us, I am pretty sure he will be as quite as a mouse because he loves and respect my cousin and he is always making sure to be like a :innocent: around her.

I don't think there is anything wrong with bringing children, it's just when they cannot behave that it's a problem. Being quiet can be nearly impossible for little children and that's normal! It would have been appropriate for the people to take them out into the hall. It's just common sense for parents to realize that not everyone is enamoured with their children's noise ;) My daughter was a noisey one when she was little so I know from first hand experience.

Anyhoo...I should have also mentioned that the Voter registration folks were there so we could sign up as well.

Driver's License?! I had no idea there was something about citizen/not citizen there.

Wisconsin is crazy on this subject, took in my wife's certificate after all those problems with them refusing to renew her license because her conditional card was expired with that crazy one year extension. And they said, next time she comes in, just have her check that I am a US citizen box and no need to bring in her certificate. Quickly replied, can an illegal do the same thing? No answer.

Oh to be a kid again, would love to run around and scream during those long boring ceremonies, kids never bothered me, but my nagging ex-wife sure did. If it wasn't for that would never be here. Laughed my head off when my wife told me she gets bitchy when hungry or tired, her way of showing that is to be dead quiet.

So turning in that old EDA and conditional card was no big deal after all. First time I have heard about this, what's next. Actually our old cards are stacked away in the closed AOS and ROC files. I was born here and dealing with governmental agencies all my life, they lose stuff, so always keep a file on the important stuff. If that ever arises, and it has been in the past, have all of that information stored away. Its not that I was born paranoid, my government made me that way.
