I should be receiving my CR-1 IV Fee bill soon from NVC, but I just found out today that my K3 has made its way through the NVC and is already at the US Embassy in HCMC, Vietnam. I didn't know either process would move along this quickly, but now I don't know if the K3 is even worth pursuing any longer.

What should I do?

phong_mai,

If the approved I-129f petition is at the consulate why would it not be worth pursuing the K3 visa?

Did you write what you're thinking?

Hi Yodrak,

Thanks for your reply. I should have worded my question differently. I had previously made up my mind to pursue just the CR-1 since I was making decent progress on it. However, with news of the K3 at the embassy I'm unsure if that's the best course of action.

I guess if the K3 will beat the CR-1 by one or two months, I would prefer to wait for the CR-1. If longer, who knows... how much longer do you think it will be for each path?

Thanks!

I am at the same point you are at right now. I have the IV fee bill and am wondering how long it is going to take NVC to process the I-864 and DS-230 before we have to go back to Taiwan for the CR-1 interview. I had already made plans to bring my wife back to the US on her K-3 before the CR-1 process got to NVC.

phong_mai,

Tough call. My advice is to discuss it with your wife, come to a decision, and then don't look back.

We are in a similar situation. Our K3 is at the NVC and soon to be sent to the embassy. The NVC has all the paperwork for the CR-1, and we are waiting for their decision. Our goal is to have a CR-1 Visa.

I don't know if this is correct, but from reading other posts, it appears that if you get your K3 Visa you can return to the embassy and get the CR-1.

For right now we are taking that path, and still using the K3 as a back up if for some reason the CR-1 does not happen. I just wonder if a person can receive the CR-1 after a K3 without getting all the reports, the medical exam, and another interview again.
