I can't say about the entire country, but here on the west coast it's not the norm...in fact it's a bit weird. Maybe it's an east coast thing.

I wouldn't say it's the norm. Up to 1 year is the norm, but up to 2 years is not unusual. My aunt did it until her last kid was 4 though. I say once you can pour a glass of milk for yourself, it's probably time to do so.

I say it depends on the child as well. I had kind of wanted to stop once my son was one year old but it didn't happen. He was super clingy and the more I tried to wean, the more he demanded to be nursed. At some point I only nursed him before bedtime and one night, he didn't want anymore.

I am very glad that's how it happened and I hope to nurse my next baby as well, as long as we both are comfortable.

You breastfed them until they were two years old? The kid should have been on solids way before that with a cup of juice or milk or something...but two years old?

I am still breastfeeding my almost 2-year-old. Not sure why so many people have such hang ups about it and invent arbitrary rules like "If they can ask for it, it means they're too old!". Formula company propoganda did a great job in this country. AJ is right...the nutritional benefits continue well past infancy.

Get your digs in all you want, but a mom that's breast feeding her kid until it's age two is considered different to say the least in this neck of the woods.

No he grew up on a farm in Washington state. He's a true left coast boy not like these midwestern and eastern transplants on the left coast.
