My husband entered the US (POE Chicago) on June 19, and he still has not received his plastic Green Card yet. Anyone out there who came through Chicago have similar issue? :crying:

He has to leave the country on a business trip for a couple of weeks. Can he leave without the actual GC, and come back without issues (with the approved visa stamp on his passport of course)?

Saylin, if you are still out there, you may have answers to these questions!! ;)

Can we contact USCIS for this? Thanks in advance!

He should have a stamp in his passport from when he entered. That stamp acts as a green card for the first year.

Thank you, Inky. That is a relief to know!

Anyone out there who came through Chicago recently? Trying to understand the processing time for people coming through Chicago. Others who have come through NY, CA, and other places have gotten their green cards within 2 to 3 weeks. Chicago appears to take much longer.

Skynaut, sorry for the delayed response. I have been busy with work and have not been visiting VJ regularly. No, he still has not received a welcome letter and of course no green card either. We talked to USCIS on July 20th. They said they were not able to find anything (using his A#) in their system for him. They said to call back after another month. So, we plan to call again on August 20th.

If anyone is aware of other options avaialble to track or expedite this process, please let us know.

Looks like Chicago is not a good POE.

Well, I found another complaint similar to mine in VJ Forums. This person also came through Chicago on July 11, and still has not received neither a welcome letter nor green card. So, they too contacted USCIS and were told that they were not able to locate their file either. So, I see a pattern! Maybe they are understaffed.
