Yay glad that stress is now over for you!

Lucky that we could use each other for the guarantors too that shaved a lot of extra time off the process. Now on to the next stress! hehe

Hi all. I'm in the process of filling in the simplified passport renewal form.

I have 1 question

Does/will Passport Canada accept a USPS money order in the amount of $97 for my

Canadian passport renewal? We don't deal in credit cards so can't use one of those.

It tells you everything right in the instructions on passport Canada website. Best to read the instructions when applying for something.

we applied for my husband's passport card on Saturday.. we didn't get it expedited... the lady said we should get it in 3 1/2 to 4 weeks... it will be cutting it close for buying a plane ticket but my husband said that if it came down to it, we could just drive up...

Your passport application is in the final processing stages.

When you applied, you requested Routine Service.

This means you should receive your passport on or about 09/03/2011.

 if we get it around the 3rd it will have taken 3 weeks...I am glad I didn't spend the extra money to get it expedited...

No.. THe money has to be in Canadian Funds. It's a Credit Card or a Canadian Money Order. Nothing else will do.

Ummm you realize that you can't get on a plane with the card right.... the card is good for land and sea only.

lol.. yes, I am aware.. My FIL told me the same thing so I had to explain to him too ..lol we always fly into Bellingham, WA and someone in my family comes and picks us up and drives us across the border..it is only a 40 minute drive for them..

although we haven't decided yet if we are going to fly or drive up yet...

and as far as I know you don't need a passport if you are flying within the US... a DL should be good enough..

Thanks, they will accept a U.S. money order but as you state it's to be made out in $97.00 Canadian funds.

Below is their reply to my inquiry concerning the payment with a U.S. money order in Canadian funds.

Does a US Postal Money Order get issued in Canadian Dollars. I'm curious how that works.. Or do they quote you a price in USD..

Not sure on that, haven't gone to get one yet. I do know Canada Post issues in both US and Canadian currency

USPS also issues International money orders which is what I'll be asking for.

I'll post the outcome of my venture when I find out

Ziggy: What you state is correct.

After 3 different versions from PPC via e-mail

I finally got to speak with a person at Passport Canada this morning

Only acceptable payments methods are with a Canadian Money Order, Credit card,

or a certified cheque from a Canadian Bank. They won't accept a certified

cheque from a US Bank.

Although their site states International Money Order as a method of payment,

with-out it having Canadian dollars printed on it they will not accept.

Now I have to get a Canadian Money Order sent to me from my brother in Canada.

The credit card option is sooooo much easier!! I know some do not have them and some people are scared people with steal the #.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

yup I was nervous but I wasn't about to waste time with money orders etc. Used my credit card and kept an eye on it also kept the number for CC fraud close by incase I noticed something bad going on but nothing bad happened. Charged my CC way faster than messing with bank stuff or money orders. So glad I went that way instead!
