FYI: I don't know if anyone has already posted about this, but, just to be aware:

http://ghana.usembassy.gov/dvlottery.html

A computer error at the ghana embassy means all DV winners will be redrawn. I don't know if the resulting back up could cause delays all around.

Jen and Babs

Psalm 20:5

1/01/2007 - First date

2/04/2010 - I-129F sent

2/08/2010 - NOA1

3/30/2010 - NOA2 Approved!!

4/07/2010 - NVC received

5/12/2010 - Packet picked up/interview date assigned

10/25/2010 - Finally back in Ghana to visit!

11/01/2010 - Interview--mostly positive, but consular officer requires cosponsor

11/24/2010 - 3rd appt.--Finally have all documents in. Result-Administrative Processing! Consulate says they will contact my fiance

05/18/2011 - Admin processing complete! Babs is asked to appear at the embassy on the 25th.

05/25/2011 - En route to the embassy, Babs is robbed on the roadside. His passport and other papers are all stolen. After filling out a police report, he arrives at the embassy a little late, and they allow him in to speak to the CO, even though he has no valid ID. Thank God! The CO gives him another appointment on June 15th, to bring a new passport and also an updated police certificate.

06/14/2011 - New passport (expedited) ready.

06/15/2011 - The CO finds a missing stamp on the new passport. Sends Babs back to the passport office and tells him to return in the afternoon. All is taken care of. VISA APPROVED!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!

06/24/2011 - Visa pick up date--told to return on the 30th.

06/30/2011 - Babs returns but doesn't get the visa. Back in AP!

10/05/2011 - Embassy brings Babs back with updated medical. Approved!! CO sets pick-up for only 2 days away, so as not to delay him any longer.

10/07/2011 - VISA IN HAND!!

This was not a computer glitch at the US Embassy in Ghana. It was a worldwide error.

The initial drawing was voided. The lawsuit against voiding the results has already been rejected because the initial drawing did not comply with US law. There was a second drawing.

This really sucks for the people in ghana who won but I am wondering will this speed up the process for those of us who filed CR or IR-1's?

It will free up some extra consular time in Oct-Dec but then they will be playing catch up to get all the possible visas process in the allowed amount of time.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

The DV has nothing to do with family based immigration petitions.

According to various political officials and the embassy the dv has impacted other immigrant visa interview processes. We have been told over and over again that because of the high number of dv awards given to Ghana the other immigrant visa interview processes such as the cr1 are backlogged over a year. There are a few people on vj whose processes closed in April/May of 2010 and they have yet to receive a notice of an interview. It's a long line we are all standing in and our feet are getting very tired - but, love keeps us going.

Thank you for your words of support. In addition to waiting through the backlog for an interview, many of us had previously unsuccessfully gone through the k1 visa process first. In some cases we have been waiting more than 3 years to get bring our spouse to the US. After all we have been through we expecting to be approved with little effort - assuming we have done all we were suppose to do correctly. Nothing like having your life put on hold for 3-4 years. All that being stated, my husband and I agree that we are worth the wait no matter what.
