Thanks everyone! Would we be penalized by quitting the K1 process and beginning the CR1 process? We are about 1 or 2 months from having the K1 visa in our hands (he's getting his physical and interview soon).

I feel like we have invested so much time (and money) into the process to quit now. It's not even that we NEED two incomes, but that he's going to get SO bored after a few months of not working.... and there are SO MANY awesome opportunities within aerospace in my city!

Thanks again for your insight -it gives us something new to consider when we talk tonight :)

It would be starting again from scratch. New filing fees, wait time while processing, etc.

Like Anh-Map said, keep in mind that the CR1 will take 8-10 months; you get no "credit" for having waited this long...Getting the EAD in 60 days is possible, but no guarantees. Do you have the $$ up front to pay for adjustment of status? It's quite expensive...

Not penalized per se, but you would be starting over.

I wish him good luck for a job in the US with that degree. I have the same degree from Embry-Riddle and see no future with it directly even with over 15 years experience in the air force. I moved on into an MBA.. The private sector is hard on jobs, and the government side has them, but will require him to be a US citizen. (Another 3 years after you marry or 5 years in country)Either way, he probably wouldn't start work before his time was up on a K-1 anyway. So, you may want to see what other options you have or are willing to do to be together. Marriage if your time is right, or find a way to work it out long distance for a bit. I wish you luck!

Swedish kronar are strong against US$, so I would recomend he stays and works while he can.

The geographic separation is tough, but that is what skype is for. After all that ommunicating, you will know your fiancee VERY well at the end of the long wait, and that is an exceleent way to start a marriage.

We chose the CR1 route so husband can work as soon as he's here. He is working there while we wait through the process, b/c of the stronger Swedish economy.

best of luck,

~M
