Perry: Running for President in 2012 is my calling

Texas Gov. Rick Perry says that he increasingly feels “called” to run for president next year.

“I’m not ready to tell you that I’m ready to announce that I’m in,” Mr. Perry told the Des Moines Register, the biggest newspaper in Iowa, which holds the nation’s first presidential nominating contest. “But I’m getting more and more comfortable every day that this is what I’ve been called to do. This is what America needs.”

The governor’s remarks are his clearest signal yet that he will join the GOP nomination fray.

Mr. Perry, who said he would announce a decision in two to three weeks, is becoming  the favorite of the Christian right, an important voter bloc  for the Iowa caucuses. As The Wall Street Journal reported this weekend, Christian conservatives say Mr. Perry  would be the most electable nominee who supports their values. Next month, the governor is holding a day of prayer and fasting at Houston’s Reliant Stadium. Back in April, he declared three days of prayer to end the Lone Star State’s drought.

Anyone would be better than 0bama, and Perry wouldn't make a bad President, but a couple of the other Republican candidates are better prospects, si man.

A problem that would arise if Perry won the presidency would be that Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, a blue-blood Establishment Republican, would become governor of Texas. That's partially why I'm lukewarm to the idea of Perry's leaving office.

When things are bad, Perry's solution is to pray:

“Fellow Americans,

Right now, America is in crisis: we have been besieged by financial debt, terrorism, and a multitude of natural disasters. As a nation, we must come together and call upon Jesus to guide us through unprecedented struggles, and thank Him for the blessings of freedom we so richly enjoy.

Some problems are beyond our power to solve, and according to the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, this historic hour demands a historic response. Therefore, on August 6, thousands will gather to pray for a historic breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose.

I sincerely hope you’ll join me in Houston on August 6th and take your place in Reliant Stadium with praying people asking God’s forgiveness, wisdom and provision for our state and nation. There is hope for America. It lies in heaven, and we will find it on our knees.

When things are bad, Perry's solution is to pray.

Praying is better than doing stuff! Everyone knows government is best when it stays out the way and does nothing. I guess you prefer an activist government. Perry prefers a government that simply paves the way for the private sector to work its magic. What better way to 'pave the way' than to pray to the Almighty so that Halliburton and Bechtel and GE may have the Lord's blessings?
