Hey I am flying american Airlines Tuesday and I am packing up my stuff to go. I was going to take 3 suitcases to check, has anyone done this recently and know the fee? I though it would be $60 a piece and was considering a 4th but I just looked now and I don't know if the 3rd and every additional would be $150.

Please help if you have any idea, I don't know if I have to rearrange my packing to leave some stuff behind now.

Thanks

As far as my mom was told flying from Canada its 60$ for a second checked bag and 150$ each after that. She was told the same thing on the way back because she had two bags with her again. That was in June.

But I don't know if the person at the ticket counter was right or if that applys for someone flying from the UK. I know it does not match their website because I checked when she got here and a second bag from Canada is supposed to be 35$.. needless to say my mom is not going to use American Airlines again lol.

Also keep in mind that the prices you say are in USD - they are most likely charging you in GBP flying out of the UK and then it's nowhere near 60 bucks but probably closer to 50 pounds. It might also be worth your while to check that your flight is actually operated by AA not by BA who they tend to code-share with and if it is operated by another airline find out their additional bag fees.

summerangel, if you are not in a hurry to bring over all your stuff now, you have 10 years to import your items after you move.

Other alternatives:

- pack each of your bags to be 48-50 lb to maximize what you can import (1st and 2nd that is). You can also have a suitcase (up to 21" or so - check with AA for exact measurements. But the standard size 20-21" wheeled luggage is allowed), AND one item (handbag, backpack, or computer case).

- bring some more over on next trips (next summer etc) - if you visit with your spouse, you can bring nearly double that on the next trips (assuming otherwise traveling without too many things)

- ask your family or friends to bring 1 large suitcase each if or when they want to come to visit you

- look at Royal Mail and other shipping options. From some EU countries they have very competitive overseas economy shipping options

- upgrade to higher than normal tourist class -- it allows much more luggage (and leg space), and for one trip it shouldn't make that much of a difference (especially if you can then bring all you planned to on this trip).
