DS156K - Documents to be originals?

Just wanting to clarify where it says on the DS156K the following documents must be attached in order to apply for a Fiance visa (after #5) - I'm assuming these need to be originals?

... and what do they mean in the note underneath by "All the above documents will also be required when you apply for AOS to lawful permanent resident. The USCIS will accept these documents for that purpose."

Does this mean the documents are returned to the beneficiary and can therefore be used for the AOS application?

Yep, you send it all with your packet three. with the instructions you got in your email it has a list of all of the documents that you need to send with it. they will get returned to you at your interview i think

Ok... I'm getting my packet 3 stuff together early to save time... so I don't have their letter yet, but noticed the embassy notes mentioned about the same originals for AOS, but it doesn't actually say to send originals or mention they return them so if they do, thats good. It means i dont need to get another set. Thanks.

yeah, i just realised you're from new zealand so may be a little different. but here, they ask for the originals and a copy of all the documents. like birth dert/marriage cert/ divorce cert, that sort of stuff you need to send original and copy. medical only original, police clearance, original and copy. i guess they just wanna see the original to make sure it's legit and they ask for a copy so they can keep the copy

The previous poster was correct, you need to send in the originals plus a photocopy of each, and the originals will be given back to you at the interview. They don't need to be notarized copies.

Can I just check another thing on this with you?... the NZ review says to send in for Packet 3 all the forms including DS-156K. It says on the form to attach the Birth Certificate etc. but then on the other p[art of the Embassy Review it says

to take to the Interview the Birth Certificate, marriage Cert if applicable. So do you need two copies of these or do you just send them with the DS-156K?

I'm getting really confused here... - thanks for your help.

Also, did you need to supply an updated I-134 for the interview or did you take a copy of the original one?

You just need to send in one original and one photocopy of the birth certificate etc with Packet 3, you don't need to take an extra copy with you to the interview.

For the I-134, you just send that in with Packet 3 along with proof of income, you don't need to supply an updated one at the interview. As long as everything is in order, your interview should be about 2-4 weeks after you send back Packet 3.
